We have a Maytag Bravos washer and I hate it.
It takes to long to wash a load, no matter what the size of the load.
The lid locks and you can't open it until an undetermined time period expires (seems to take forever).
While doing a load of laundry, the machine just sits there and doesn't do anything. A complete waste of time.
What type of washer do you have and do you like it? Would you recommend it?
You know your washing machine’s make AND model names?
Mine is named `Sears’.
It has a little Calvin decal on it, w/ Calvin peeing on a Maytag.

I will recommend getting a gas dryer if possible. They are even simpler than the electric dryers due to the absence of the electric heating coil.
If you can find a washer with the simple electro-mechanical timer control system instead of a computer board I would buy one. They are not susceptible to the power surges that others on the thread have mentioned.
We have a Kenmore washer/dryer set with commercial capacity. Love them.
Thank the liberals (in BOTH PARTIES!) for setting “Earth-Friendly” standards for appliances including using less electricity and water.
They're the same people who gave us the mercury hazard curly light bulbs and banned our incandescents.

I HAD a Fischer Paykel, and I couldn’t wait for that POS to break down so I could buy a different one. Bought the Bravos like you, I see the same issues you do, but I’m happy because the FP was such a piece of junk!
Frontloaders are scams.
Buy highest-end mechanical-control, top-loader machines made by Whirlpool (Whirlpool, Maytag, & some Kenmores. Avoid electronic controls like the plague as they are uber-expensive to replace. Mechanical controls last nearly forever.

Pretty much the only thing made for Kenmore that’s any good is the stuff made by Whirlpool.
So far, I’m satisfied with the last washer I purchased just over a year ago.(LG model WT1101CW)
It’s a 4.3 cu. ft. top load, high-efficiency, mid price model. Like other high efficiency models, it can sometimes take two hours to wash a load. It also has a speed wash cycle which uses more water. I usually add some “20 Mule Team” borax laundry booster to the wash.
About the only nice thing I have to say about Sears is that they still sell very good washers and dryers.
And my Craftsman two-stage snow thrower is a good one.
(For you Rebels, that’s a snow blower with a steel augur that directs the snow—`frozen water, white’—to an impeller that forcefully tosses the snow out of your damn driveway.)
But that’s it. I don’t go to Sears & Sawbuck but every decade or so. Or more.
I have a GE wave-style washer set, large capacity, and I like it a lot. I got the model that came out just before the clear top washers, so you could see them in action. It does fill, then sit for 4-5 minutes before action begins, but you can set it for two rinses, fabric softener on the 2nd rinse, or put it in the first, then rinse w/o softener, whatever. I like the set. I do like the front-loaders, but I could not afford to buy the stands for them, and leaning over to load the front-loader all the time would be too painful.
Wow, that WM8000 is a BBAWM* (*Big Butt American Washing Machine) and I am in envy.
We live in Germany, the land of small butt appliances. Recently we opted for an LG direct drive washing machine to replace our 15 year old Wal Mart (bought when WM was in Germany) no name that served us well.
I am very impressed with the LG as it is extremely quiet and does a great job. I especially like the ability to stop the run and open the door if something was left out or a problem arises.
But I would really like to have a monster like yours if for nothing else to show the neighbors what a real machine looks like!
New Samsung is fantastic. Got rid of a POS Kenmore made by Whirlpool. Our repairman said Whirlpool is where he makes his most money.
Anyway, for what it's worth, not that I'm an expert on washing machines, I recently bought a house and upon advice of others, bought a brand new Samsung WA500 top-loading model with accompanying dryer.
Went through a lot of Whirlpool and Maytags over the past 30 years - this one seems like the best of them. Runs quiet and you can fit a lot of crap in there at once. Wife likes it too.
A of years ago when my Mom needed a new washer I steered her away from the Maytags for exactly this reason, and the price. I got her a GE model that would do what she wanted when she wanted, it allowed to manually set levels and you could open the lid with out it restarting the entire wash cycle.
Front loaders suck. We bought a Samsung standard large capacity top loaders. Love them. Samsung dryer DV50F9A6EVW and companion washer.
We can get agitated by anything, especially spin.
Our Maytag Centennial top-loader does a decent job of cleaning, with a caveat.
It’s supposed to adjust the water level to the load, but it tends to not fill enough for a large load. So after it starts to agitate, I lift the lid, and it fills more.
The flip side, if you want to do a small load and have to lift the lid for some reason, it fills more than you want.
I would look for a machine where you set the load size manually, rather than depending on a sensor.
I bought a Maytag washer/dryer to replace my front loader washer which got stinky with mold issues. I hate my Maytag top loader washer...automatic locks, NOISY and wheezy, takes forever to go through the cycles coz’ it puts in a little water, agitates, figures out it needs more water, and goes thru’ that cycle again and again, and doesn’t seem to clean as well. Compounding the problem, at the same time I bought the Maytag French Door refrigerator which is also crap. The plastic handles are breaking, it got a dent in the pull out drawer, and does not seem to keep things as cold as my old two door fridge. AND you have to constantly check that one of the doors shuts when you close it. It does have an alarm that goes off when it doesn’t close properly, but by then the refrigerator has gotten quite warm. Maytag used to be my “go to”. Never again! Caveat emptor, people.
