I agree. Both teams were evenly matched, heck, both were wild card teams.
But baseball in particular, it has a certain “feel” to it. After all, its been around for what, 150 years? It has a rhythm that is a constant. It’s a great radio sport, (as long as you have someone good calling the game). You can take a nap to it and wake up and catch the action. It has drama, a certain mano a mano between the pitcher and the batter. It has along, drawn out season that serves as a background to our daily life for a good part of six months.
Then there is October. Will your team make it to the Big Game?
I have been a Giants Fan since the 60s. My first game was 1966 against the dreaded Los Angeles Dodgers. They had Koufax, etc, we had Juan Marichel and WIllie Mays. The Giants lost 6-4, but being at Candlestick for my first game, I learned to love Guldens Brown Mustard (it’s what they put on the hot dogs at Candlestick) To this day, Guldens has been my mustard of choice. It takes me back to being with my father and grandfather, the both of them drinking coffee from a plaid colored thermos.
Baseball creates memories. Its a game most kids can play. We used to have games in the street and even let girls play. Other sports are nice, but baseball is a part of the American fabric.
Congrats to the Giants. Very scrappy. They handed it to my Nats, outplayed them. I wish the division winners didn’t have to wait for four or five days, baseball is a game where that can screw with a team. But the WC teams have to burn their starter. Time will tell if that evens out, this could not happen again for years.
Baseball and Hockey are the only two popular pro sports left where the cool players can generally self police the jerks.
