Anyone know how the S&W 500 compares to the .454 Casull? I have a Casull with a 6” barrel and was just wondering.
In it’s hotter loads the .500 S&W is quite a bit more powerful than the .454 which is already a very hot cartridge.
In one of those huge X frame revolvers the .454 should not be too bad.
I use to shoot at a sportsman club that had a pistol shoot every month with steel targets from 20 yards to over 100 yards.
The best I ever did out of 25 targets was a 24.
I still have the paper clipping from back in the 1990s when they used to post the results in our local news paper.
I can shoot a 357, 44, 454 and 500 more accurately than a a 22 hand gun.
I love recoil.
I am just the opposite. I can shoot a .22 such as a Colt Woodsman or Ruger Mark I target or a High Standard Victor better than any other type gun.
Probably the best group I ever fired was with an old Colt Official Police trade in. I was using full wadcutters at around 15 yards and that old pistol would put every bullet into the same hole and the hole did not enlarge too much.
The .44 mag and .41 mag are great shooters but I do a little better with the target .22s.
I actually won my gun club’s yearly all comers shoot. I think there were 8 different events and I screwed up and did not write down my score on one section and have my buddy certify it. I ended up not getting the prize even tho I had in fact done the best shooting.
That’s rather disconcerting that the first handgun you give someone to shoot is on of the most powerful in the world.
At age 6 or 7, I sat in my Dad’s lap and steadied his scoped Winchester model 70 (pre-’63) 30-06 forestock on his leg, and managed, first shot, to hit a stick my little brother had jammed into the dirt on the other side of a fair-sized pond.
He “panicked”? What a girly man.
Here's a .50 caliber revolver that might be more practical: Freedom Arms .500 Wyoming Express
Do you still have it?
If so, is it for sale?
I’d like to have one of those.
My dad recently gave me his 1903 Springfield (made by Smith-Corona typewriter Co) .30-06
It’s a great rifle.
We I guess I’ve got some work to do, because I give them a wide berth.
And I’ve got some scars that help me remember why I should.
Nice.
A revolver that can push a 440 grain slug at 1400+ fps is a right powerful piece.
My .45 Colt Vaquero can get 1400 fps with a 250 grain slug from a hot hand load, but doing that with almost twice the weight is impressive.
That might have been Laz and a Desert Eagle.
I no longer have it.
At one time, I had over 200 guns including six Swedish Mausers. While in grad school I basically ran out of money and rather than borrow, I began to sell them.
There were many which I really wish I had kept but basically had no choice.
Well now that I think about it, I do still have one Swede but I want to keep it.
