Ive written extensively about gun control, but mostly because of practical and moral objections to the notion that government should have the power to disarm law-abiding people.
But I hadnt realized that some of the earliest gun control initiatives were designed to oppress blacks.
As Dave Kopel explains in Reason, the white power structure in many post-Civil War states was very anxious to disarm former slaves.

‘... the notion that government should have the power to disarm law-abiding people.’
Well isnt that easy enough to remedy? If enough poorly/vaguely written law is enacted obedience becomes problematic and you’re no longer ‘law abiding’. Thats exactly where we are today. From there it easy to slowly strip you’re rights (all of them just just RKBA). No matter how hard to try you’ll never satisfy all laws all the time. This ‘Im law abiding’ thing is a trap.
To disarm Blacks,
To disarm Native Americans,
To disarm Americans for the protection of criminal government entities and jackboot thug government agents like the police (New York's Sullivan law).

The key to vague/poorly written crap that “appears” to NOT threaten law abiding RKBA folks. Help put somebody’s mind at ease that the don’t REALLY want to take your guns away. They just want to help make you safer. Right? Um, not so much.
