Wal-Mart Stores Inc. cut its revenue outlook for its current fiscal year as it announced it is scaling back its expansion plans for its supercenters next year and stepping up investments in its online operations.
The worlds largest retailer, blaming an overall tough economy, now expects annual sales to be up 2 to 3 percent for its fiscal year ending in January. That is down from its earlier guidance of sales growth at the low end of a 3 to 5 percent range.
Wal-Marts diminished outlook increases concern about prospects for the critical holiday shopping season that kicks off late next month. It also comes on the same day that the government reported that September retail sales retreated from the prior month.

How bad is it?
Here in northern NJ plenty of people buy groceries at the Meadowlands Flea Market (yuck); we also have a sharp increase in shoplifting (five-finger discounts on everything).
Our local paper reports increasing numbers of people from Newark coming into Wal-Mart, filling a shopping cart, then just walking out (and getting arrested).
The geniuses thought they could base an economy on people buying stuff while simultaneously shipping high paying jobs overseas.
Why should I shop a place that does not carry my clothing style, or my shoe size? Not to mention cheap chinese goods? When you reach into your 6th decade you don’t need as much stuff, you have most of it.
Why should I drive 25 miles to the nearest Walmart, where there is little handicapped parking, when I can order from Amazon and get gas points from Kroger’s for buying their gift cards?
It’s not just WalMart. I boycott Targets, McD’s, Paneires (SP?) bread and the mall which do NOT ALLOW MY GUN. I visit Penny’s twice a year, and carry my gun any way, just to buy new bras.
When it is time for CHRISTmas if your store says Happy Holiday’s I boycott them. May not mean much in the total scheme of things but if all other gun owners and Christians did the same it would make an impact on their bottom line.
Now your MEAT is coming from china. Look at your labels.
I leave feed back where ever possible to those effects.
Shoplifters at our local Wal-Mart are an everyday thing, based on conversations with our police during ride-alongs.
Remember when people, even poor people, would be ashamed to even try that?
They are AT LEAST daily in ours; Newark NJ has no big stores, so the gibsmedats have to leave the reservation (”food desert”) to get anything.
The Wal-Mart looting is a great indication as to why Newark has no big stores; they are unmanageable. You’d have three times as many guards as cashiers/stock people...
Yeah; on a local level I guess it still works that way.
With our Wal-Mart it is situated in polluted meadowlands away from any residential neighborhood.
Please explain how my spending 20% more on batteries will get us out of the mess were in.
The answer to your question.
A wise observation. Now that I'm retired, going at 9am means little crowding and a fair number of cute soccer moms. (my WM is in an upscale burb).
Before I retired I'd go at 9pm. Little crowding but no moms.
At peak times, yes it's a pain in the @ss.
Thanks, I’ll watch it when I get home. In advance, please explain how taking 20% more out of a Henry Ford-era auto worker’s paycheck would cure a recession.
If I might suggest, watch the video first and then let's talk about it.
Whether I go hiking, to the beach, sometimes even to work - it is always worth going earlier. The people I don’t want to see are sound asleep in their beds while I’m enjoying myself/getting things done.
I have a very short commute; I don’t know how people tolerate other drivers for an hour at a stretch...
