The article and then book was “Crisis in the Hot Zone”. It covered not just Ebola but also Marburg and the Hanta virus which are all similar. In the article the CDC shut down their lab because they were afraid of a spread of one of the viruses in the 3rd level “Hot Zone”. They sealed up the lab and pumped in formaldehyde to kill everything in it.

Turned out the loose strain was Ebola Zaire which only killed monkeys; not humans. Still the caution exhibited then back in the 90’s is strangely absent now.

you are probably right

“It is scary. They’ve identified as a female nurse. Wouldn’t elaborate on the level of care she provided to Duncan. Said she was self-monitoring and hadn’t been to work the last 2 days. I can’t imagine the fear she must be feeling.”

My God, it is scary...did they tell her to immediately get tested if she as much sneezed, or did they “figure” she probably didn’t have it, and didn’t want to worry her or her relatives. In any case, we still haven’t gotten to the point of being able to deal with it...so you are right in that regard.

Here is an article

http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/health/ebola-case-confirmed-dalla-health-care-worker-tests-positive-article-1.1971542

It's in Dallas and one of the nurses taking care of Duncan contracted the disease.

The guy handling the presser was that POS Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins who is obviously the Obama Administrations toady sent to keep a lid on the situation

This is the same moron who took is daughter with him to drive the Duncan family to wherever the Obama Administration is hiding him.

The Obama Admin has f**ked up their Ebola response by the numbers both here and abroad from the gitgo

Now we pay the price for their inaction, indecisiveness, incompetence and their racist, afro centric agenda driven decision making process.

The whole cast of characters in this Obamination is disgusting from Obama himself to Jesse Jackson trying to incite a racial anger and discord into the process and the Clay Jenkins clown.

I think he was referring to the media and government being complicit in telling repeating the claim that ebola was “difficult to get”.

If any of you are former or current military members you know how carefully your chem gear must be worn to afford protection.

The military chemical warfare gear is much more protective than any of the protective suits I’ve seen in the media, being worn by those exposed to ebola-infected persons. I know there are “level 2” and up to “level 4” protective suits, and that only a couple of medical facilities in the USA offer level 4 protection (I think one is at the CDC in Atlanta).

But the real difference is in the procedures used to remove the protective gear. Once the gear is contaminated, the military member goes through a several-step process to get the gear off. You don’t just peel it off and throw it on the ground.

In the military chem-gear it is assumed that a pinhead-sized drop of nerve gas is lethal, and stuck to your chem suit could possibly contaminate you after you’ve cleared the target area following a chemical attack. So, the procedures for removal of the gear assume the outer garments are contaminated with lethal gas or biological agents. The removal of the gear takes longer than putting it on — maybe 30 minutes of a step-by-step process.

First comes the shower, which removes the contaminants from outside the garments. This does not appear to be part of any protocols I have seen being employed by medical personnel. If this is not done, there is a significant danger of touching the contaminant during the process of peeling off the outer layers of protective garments.

After that, there is another shower after the outer gear is removed, this time after the inner garments are also removed.

I think that is a likely way some of these “protected” hot zone workers are getting the virus on their skin. They’re not decontaminating and removing the protective garments carefully enough.

In the 1980’s we were told anyone can contract AIDS (as they can).

Now we are told how utterly impossible it is to contract ebola, when all fats contradict this.

Our government is now our enemy.

It never infected any of the dozen or so people who worked there caring for the monkeys.

Untrue. One of the Reston monkey handlers tested positive for Ebola Reston antibodies... but he was asymptomatic.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

It may be that the ability of this disease to develop may be much longer than anticipated. I still think members of the family are going to drop[ like flies t some point.

They didn’t know all that until after they closed and dosed the lab. The Hot Zone was breached and that’s what scared them. All these bad acting viruses were in there; not just the Zaire monkey killer. Why is another question. I’m sure the residents of Reston Va. weren’t consulted.

The incubation period is TWO to 21 days with the peak period being about one week.

It is still not clear at all that a carrier has to be sick to be infectious. Not clear at all.

Consider Enterovirus 68, how is it that non-sick children are passing it to otherwise healthy children that have no antibodies for the virus?

This new patient presented to the hospital and was admitted on FRIDAY. Nothing was said here in the Dallas area yesterday about a potential case. A reverse 911 call went to everyone within 4 blocks of her apartment and the common areas of her complex have been decontaminated. Since her initial infection, how many people has she had contact with? She was “self-monitoring” and was NOT one of the 48 on the watch list.........I’m afraid there’ll be more.......
