Major League Baseball announced the 14 umpiring assignments for the League Championship Series round Thursday, and many of the boys in blue selected didn't have the best of seasons calling balls and strikes.
According to rankings published by Bloomberg Businessweek, the crew chief for the ALCS, Joe West, was the second-least accurate umpire behind home plate during the 2014 season. By percentage of correct calls, West was 83rd out of 84 umpires who made at least 1,000 total calls. West was right 83.91 percent of the time. The best umpire who made at least 1,000 calls was Paul Schreiber at 88.46 percent.

I agree.
OK. I don’t pay that much attention to baseball. Regardless, if the league was picking teams they sure as hell wouldn’t have let LA get knocked out in the first round.
Just as long as the bulk of the bad calls come when the Orioles are at bat then I'll be happy.
Always told my players to expect at least 1 bad call in each at bat; just hope it isn’t the last one.
:-)
Let's not get too carried away with rounding errors.
The worst ump in the Majors misses 16 out of every 100 pitches, the best ump misses 12 out of every 100 pitches.
A difference of four pitches out of every 100, or a difference of about six pitches per game.
Maybe you'd like to get rid of the umpire and go strictly by the pitch tracker, but I still don't see a large enough statistical difference to get my panties in a wad.
generally, the guys on here do not admit to wearing panties.
“Stop crying and swing, for Gods sake.”
my thoughts too. Today’s hitters, with all their muscle (natural or ped) are wimps. Like kids expecting their Dad to fight all their battles, it disgusts me to see so may modern hitters expect the umps to save their as%% all the time.
Can’t brush them off the plate anymore either.
I’m not most guys. ;)
Don Denkinger!
That said, I did laugh out loud at your post. But then again, I’m not a Cards fan.
29 year old sour grapes.
Due to instant replay a lot of experienced umps were transferred to man the replay booths in New York. Therefore there was a lot of rookie umps called up to replace them and call games this year
Thank you. That makes sense.
