They can compress folded clothing to fit better in your suitcase. When you unpack it seems to have less crumples and a neater crease.
Just buy the size that fits best in your travel cases.

In less than three weeks, we hit the airways and cruise the Asia waters and gateways not Asia, Singapore and Beijing... I haven't started packing.
I am notorious for over-packing.. I may use foam inserts next time to fill the suitcase out and leave some of the stuff home.
Anyone have any packing tips?
we always pack meds 4 days more than the trip length is planned
I was stuck 3 days in Charlotte after a ground collision, and 4 days in another city by an ice storm at a major hub. Since the second one, I’ve been getting more conservative in my prep.

We were on honeymoon in St. Martin. Mt a guy who’s wife had died and he was traveling around the world. His wife died and he was taking some of the insurance money and getting away. His boys told him they would run his business.
He bought new clothes at each stop and send the dirty clothes home.
I hope the boys washed everything and they didn’t pile up.
My wife went on a shopping spree in Milan and Florence. I finally convinced her to ship a lot of stuff home. Got there two weeks after we got home.
wife was overnight in Phoenix when forest fires closed every airport in soCal. They put her in hotel and bought her dinner.
The longest I had was 10 hours at O’Hare, snow. All hotels booked. Got out the same day late at night. I try to travel south during the winter now.
Nothing longer than overnight.
If I pack my 2 pair of underwear beforehand, what am I going to wear to work?
Here is what my wife and I do when traveling overseas. Note that we have learned not to overpack. So.. We each have two rolling duffel bags - one medium size and one large size. We pack the medium duffels and then pack the medium duffels INSIDE the large duffels. Thus, we depart with one bag each and have an entire large duffel to bring back things we acquire at our destination.
I can highly recommend the rolling duffels from Eddie Bauer.
In 1984 we went to Egypt for a two week visit. We took an empty suitcase with us for stuff we might buy to bring back with us. It was not empty for the return flight.
There is no such thing as ... "over-packing". (Feel better?)

Over packing means your luggage is no longer an asset but a burden to get from one place to another. Take money and buy things you like at the destination vs paying for extra luggage. Travel light.
Lay out all the clothes you think you will need in one pile.
Lay all the money you think you will need in another.
Take a quarter of the clothes and four times the money.
When you need it, you will really need it.
There is nothing like arriving in country after midnight on Saturday night with your luggage still in London and you have to speak at the Sunday morning service.
I can take luggage that (some say, in jest of course) approaches the size of a steamer trunk on a weekend trip, and feel just fine about it.

I will pack a few days ahead. The night before I take half of all the clothes and leave them. I travel a lot and it is rare I will need anything more than a small carryon bag. Anything forgotten I purchase when I get where I am going.
I do the week-out packing and the day before topping off. Then toiletries and meds the day of.
Some things I make sure to pack for international travel.
-Universal wall outlet adapters.
-A SIM card type cellphone. Multi-SIM phones are even better.
-Destination currency so I can pay for the visa without having to first obtain currency on landing.
-List of important phone numbers and contacts both in visiting countries and back home.
-Grapefruit seed extract if I’m unsure of the drinking water.
-Printed copy of my itinerary on my person and boarding passes in advance.
-Wallet, keys, toiletries, meds and electronics in the carry on along with 3 days of clothes.
I usually travel with loose fitting clothes and slip on footwear mostly because the travel is usually >18 hrs.
Have a good trip.
No need for a steamer. Take a small spray bottle from the $ store, fill with water, lay out or hang up the item and lightly spray and just run your hands over it and VOILA the wrinkles are gone.
If you can fit me into your checked luggage, I would prefer to wait till the last minute. Sounds like a great trip!
I am a female and I am a light packer too. I’m with you on doing laundry wherever I am. I can pack 1 1/2 wks worth of clothes in a rolling carry on. If I am going to cold weather I will UPS sweaters and boots there and then UPS them back home.....just so I don’t have to travel with them.
Why Beijing? Peking is closed. ;-)
We end the cruise there and spend two days as smog collectors uhh sightseers.
