Has anybody had their financial info stolen and used?

Posted on 09/30/2014 6:12:56 PM PDT by ilovesarah2012

Today is payday for my daughter. This morning she checked her bank account and found a charge for almost $700 from an Apple store in California. We live in SC. She had to go to the bank and try to get it straightened out. It will be several days before she gets her money back. How does this happen and what can you do to protect yourself? I am outraged and feel like the chances of catching who did it are slim.

Pretty much all in cash for some time now. Saw this coming years ago.

About a year ago, some person in England tried to use my debit card. Fortunately the bank caught it and locked the card.

They sent me a new one with a different number.

Somebody accessed my VISA card and sold the number to two different people, one in Russia and one in Nigeria. But the bank caught the charges because they were for large amounts and in places I did not normally travel too

Ask any one of the on air personalities, they all shill for life alert or one of it’s clones. Personally I’m pretty much living an all cash kind of life now.

Have the cops trace the location of the phone and you should have the perp in hand.

Oh, they'll never catch them. They won't even look. They'll just give her the $700 she lost and go on as if nothing happened.

Seems it is getting worse. And financial institutions could probably do a lot more to stop it.

Oh so that’s how the General Secretary of Nigeria is able to promise me a cut of the $12 million dollar that he would like to put into my account for safe keeping.

They’d give mine back and throw in a few bucks to help me out if they did.

Yes. Three times, now. Debit card. Locked the account. We had to dispute the charges. Sent new card.

I’ve gotten to where I pay in cash.

Also, if you travel, make sure you notify the company your destination so they won’t think the account is compromised when you use it.

I’ve got a business that is registered with the SBA and suddenly got a bunch of emails from out of the country saying they wanted to place an order and do I take credit cards. Since I don’t sell products this was obviously a scam.

Finally I emailed one of them back and asked what they want to order and that’s the last I’ve heard ....for now.

Also, I used a debit card and either an ARCO or a 7-11 in the Seattle area stole my info and they got 1500.00 out before I realized what was going on. Yes, I got it back but it still made me angry. And, I had my purse stolen - they got a tank of gas before I got the cards turned off. My purse being stolen was the worst.

Debit cards get “skimmed” all the time, not to mention security breaches like the ones at Target and Home Depot.

Most likely she will get her money back, but they should issue a new debit/credit card as well.

Someone in China is still playing the video games they purchased with my card. My bank gave me my money back immediately.

A heard a bout a guy whose credit card was stolen. The thief wasn’t abusing it as much as his wife had been, so he didn’t report it. (* required satire notification HERE)

what can you do to protect yourself?

I have a daughter and I taught here that Abstinence was the ONLY proven method of not getting pregnant, the same goes for Identity Theft.

The warning must be in the front, else otherwise prudent persons might be caused to have heart attacks and jump off cliffs once the light comes on.

Substitute Obama for “financial institutions” and you have what is wrong in the world today.
