A divided Supreme Court has put off the start of early voting in Ohio, which had been set to begin Tuesday.
The justices' order by a 5-4 vote Monday granted a request from state officials, who have been trying to trim the number of days for early voting and restrict weekend and evening hours.
The moves prompted a lawsuit from black churches and civil rights groups that the new rules would make it difficult for residents to vote and disproportionately affect low-income and black voters
Early voting in the swing state now will start on Oct. 7, under a state law pushed by Republican lawmakers.

Being that voting is a privilege of living in this republic, I don’t think that it’s too much to task that everyone make the effort to show up on a particular day to cast their ballot.
I think we should outlaw vote by mail, early voting, absentee voting and any other forms of voting that require the voter to make the least little bit of effort to have their voice heard.
I hate early voting.
If it were up to me there would be minimal absentee voting, no early voting, and you would have to register at the secretary of state office with no other options.
Why is it OK to use a church as a polling station, Black or otherwise? I though we had “separation of Church and state”, so the atheists tell us. Never mind, the atheists are too busy warming up for the spate of lawsuits against shopping malls and municipalities that dare put up Nativity Scenes or Menorahs for the upcoming holiday season.
I’ve come to the conclusion that while we need voter photo ID now, we should aim for replacing it with biometric ID. Any one interested in voting would be required to have their biometric data (fingerprints, iris scans, facial recognition and, yes, even DNA). Getting that data is getting cheaper and cheaper as new, more efficient, technologies are developed.
Hell, we can NOT access our home defense handguns without first passing a biometric test. In our case the ID is by a fingerprint reading and matching to fingerprints previously “registered” as allowed to access the handgun containers. The access process takes literally only a couple of seconds.
The good news is that undetected rapists and murderers would not be voting as they (e.g., Jesse Matthew Jr. - the Virginia abductor) would want their “forensic” data to be matched with crime scene evidence. W’e be better off if such creatures were not voting.
Lets get back to basics!
One day! One Vote! Inked Finger! Polls close at 8 PERIOD! Counts given within the hour! No more stallin to stuff the box!
The real purpose of early voting is Vote Fraud. No other way to rationally look at it.
But if that's a problem, a voter can request a ballot, by mail, for early voting. So the unqualified voters can register by mail or show up with weak ID and then always vote by mail without more ID! What's to stop someone from requesting someone else's ballot and filling it in? For early voting, the voter in Cuyahoga county goes to a single location in Cleveland, so there's no local scrutiny. Before Obama's first election they had registration parties downtown, and the same day people registered, they were brought to the voting location!
It's harder to sign up for the local rec center and pay their fee. Besides proof like a driver's ID, I'd have to show two utility bills with my name and address! How does paying a utility bill have a direct one-to-one correspondence with being a resident?
I'd wager Republicans would always win in OH if they ever cleared up the registration and voting mess.
Ohio Ping
Bob Golic is covering this on his talk show on WNIR from Kent, Ohio. Actually, he’s spent a lot of time covering this in the past. He’s on a good rant right now;

Too bad
The dead won’t be able to vote as often.
Would it be okay for me to let my hubby 'take care of that for me', or just have him take both ballots, saying that I don't have to worry my 'pretty little head' about that 'voting stuff'. Does no one in this state consider that perhaps this could happen in many households, people taking each other's votes?
Maybe when my son turns 18, I'll register him to vote and get to vote three times.
Willie is a great American.
I was a poll observer during the 2008 election and these dem activists come in and demand to see the roles to find out who hasn’t been to the poll yet. I protested and made a call to the local Repub office and reported it, within about 10-15 min a lawyer comes down and they all huddle about it and come back and say they can have access to the list. I asked what they do when they find out someone hasn’t voted, they said “then we go get them”.
Kinda sent chills up my spine, very Saddam-esque
Was it Lenin who said it doesn't matter who votes, all that matters is who counts the votes?
Add to that, "who gets his name on the ballot."
This could be series. And hugh.
Early voting,”motor voter”,etc...all vehicles for voter fraud on a massive scale!
If it were up to me, the only ones voting would be stakeholders: actual taxpayers.
Those receiving benefits that exceed their amount of taxes paid would forfeit their vote for that election cycle for any office that could affect their receipt of benefits.
