Word For The Day, Monday, 9/29/14

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

animus; noun

1. intense dislike; hatred; animosity

2. motive, intention, or purpose

3. (in Jungian psychology) the masculine principle present in the female unconscious See also anima

Etymology: 1820, "temper" (usually in a hostile sense), from Latin animus "rational soul, mind, life, mental powers; courage, desire," related to anima "living being, soul, mind, disposition, passion, courage, anger, spirit, feeling," from PIE root *ane- "to blow, to breathe" (cf. Greek anemos "wind," Sanskrit aniti "breathes," Old Irish anal, Welsh anadl "breath," Old Irish animm "soul," Gothic uzanan "to exhale," Old Norse anda "to breathe," Old English eðian "to breathe," Old Church Slavonic vonja "smell, breath," Armenian anjn "soul"). It has no plural. As a term in Jungian psychology for the masculine component of a feminine personality, it dates from 1923.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

Here is my example with WFTD.

Anti-Christian animus kills.

No pushing at the door please!

Animus is not good for the soul. But it is all around.

"Animus is not good for the soul."

True. It is corrosive, and nothing can contain it without being destroyed.

These powerful things must be transmuted into stable components that are actually reserves of energy and strength.

Bullwinkle wasn’t just animus; he was a non-sister-biting mus.

Ugh, what a horrible weekend for the sports fans here.

The Pirates drop two to give up any chance at the division. Wild Card game on Wednesday.

Penn State gets manhandled by Northwestern at home.

Pitt loses to 20-point underdog Akron at home.

And the Steelers can’t get a measly first down to save a victory over a team that gave up 56 points the week before. Time for coaches to start feeling the heat.

Animus is increasing towards Gov. Scott Walker’s challenger as more of her lies are exposed.

My husband spend part of the weekend erecting signs for the Governor and got nothing but high fives from passersby, as well as requests for more signs.

But Obama reserves his animus for all-of-us, not the enemy of us. Or of the US. Whom he, and almost all of the democrat party, believes IS the enemy.

Sobering to go to a Mass up here in Saginaw Michigan, and here the priest proudly declare after Mass that “And I have always been a democrat! “ ... As if that were something to be proud of nowdays.

Good news is that we found a whole stash of excellent 4 x 8 Walker signs and stakes that someone had saved from the last 2 elections. They can be re-used and will save the Gov some money. They are in our barn, and now we just need a truck to transport.

Barack, on TV, is ubiquitous
His empty words generate animus
Deflect, dodge and lie
Pathetic! This guy
Is the lowest, the worst; He’s the minimus
