Interestingly, Whitey's younger brother Billy was the President of the Massachusetts Senate and later the president of the University of Massachusetts.
He was elected President of the Senate in 1978 and was re-elected every two years to 1996, making his time as Senate president the longest tenure in Massachusetts history. He was forced to resign from the office of president of the University of Massachusetts after he refused to testify in a 2003 US Congressional hearing concerning communications he may or may not have had with Whitey.
