Travel to Mexico
Me | 09/28/2014 | Bushwon

Posted on 09/28/2014 6:05:57 PM PDT by Freedom56v2

Daughter is traveling to Mexico City, and I am looking for some useful travel references...some first-hand Freeper info/advice, or books/websites that have a "step-by-step" account of what to expect when she arrives at the airport.

She has never traveled to a Mexico (or any other country forthat matter), and it has been a long time since I traveled to Mexico, so I am looking for the latest information to provide to her. Thank you for your help.

Surely you’re joking about the ice cubes. What about the microbes suspended in the ice? Besides the fact that commonly available alcohol is not even strong enough to reliably kill bacteria on the outside.

Hi All!

Well, the bride seems to be providing some of the local “what to d and what not to do” in Mexico City,

but I am concerned about:
1. What to do when you get to the airport in USA—what to expect.
2. What to do or expect when you get to the airport in Mexico City.
3. What if your transportation falls thru at airport in Mexico City?
4. What does she need to know leaving Mexico after 6 days??? Tho not on top of my list, it will be g

****** “As one who’s done some international traveling...including to some pretty downtrodden, chaotic places...one of the few places that frightens me so much that I’ll never voluntarily go there is Mexico. In spite of having visited Africa,Asia and part of South America you’d have to hold a gun to my head to convince me to go to Mexico. Why? Simple! IMO *every* person in the country...cop....judge...politician...lawyer...common citizen....is completely corrupt and wouldn’t think twice about murdering you and taking everything you have.

Others may disagree,however.” *****

I live in South Texas ... I know many folks with Relatives in Mexico ... The Holidays are the worst time to travel there, and everything that you posted is true.
I know a young man that considered himself very lucky to escape on foot without ID and Money in the middle of nowhere while the “Police” were arguing over how to split up his belongings and who had to watch him.
He was found by US Border Patrol without shoes or shirt just across the border after what he thinks was 4 days.
He was a kid that graduated High School with my Son and at the time he was a Pre-Med Student in San Antonio.
He said he would never return ... he told me that story 3 years ago and it has gotten worse in Mexico since then. (Also worse here as the kid has yet to recover physically from the ordeal, he is still in pretty rough shape), it’s a sad, sad story for such a promising young man.

I’m sorry...I just don’t remember that. Too many airports, too many customs/immigration check-ins. Must not’ve been a problem. I can’t even remember if we took a taxi or the hotel shuttle.

What are you/she expecting that is so foreign and exotic?

Most don’t speak conversational English and they use different money. Not that much else different in the airport compared to the one she departed from.

Public transportation I was able to figure out pretty much anywhere in the world 40 years ago, and it’s more uniform now. Did get on some wrong buses and trains from time to time.

My company had mandatory meetings there in 2010 and every restaurant we went to served bottled water as we sat down. It sounds as if the wedding she’s attending will be rather upscale and I’d bet the tours, restaurants and wedding locales the family has set up will do the same as I experienced.

I agree. Like sending your daughter to Munich during WW II. Yeah there are nice places to visit in Germany. People today are unmindful of history and it astounds me how cavalierly they act toward enemy nation states. I refuse to eat in Mexican restaurants. There is one nearby. The food is absolutely terrible and expensive yet Floridians line up for the cafeteria-style slop. It’s called Chipotle. Must be some kind of liberal guilt thing going on. BTW I hate to say this but the OP sounds like a liberal himself/herself. Maybe he/she should ask for Mexican trip advice on Democrat Underground or call the local Mexican consulate a/k/a the U.S. Social Security Administration. One more thing—I would never spend one minute in a country which is holding a U.S. Marine in prison on trumped up charges. Amazing what a con job America’s educational establishments have dome to the younger generations. I have some 25-year-olds in my family who have been brainwashed into believing the U.S. was founded by terrorists. And that there is no moral difference between Osama Bin Laden and George Washington. I’m talking about 25-year-olds who have served in the U.S. military.

Thank you. All this boogeyman stuff in Mexico is absurd. Keep your head about you and be smart is the best advice.

Doxycycline. Start taking it a few days before you go. Can eat and drink anything and never get tourista. We always get some from the doc before going.

1. US airport was same as always except we had to show our passports before being allowed to board plane. No big deal.

2. Arriving in Mexico we didn’t get searched or pulled over for customs, just passed through essily. Leaving airport crazy. Everyone very vocal, offering rides to tourists -very loud and in your face. We kept walking and tried to ignore them.

3. I guess if prearranged transport falls through I’d call hotel to ask who to use??? Or family hosting wedding???

4. If I recall correctly, it was similar to here when leaving Mexico. Some security to clear at airport and then just wait at gate. Customs to clear obviously, when back in US.

Hope what I can contribute helps in some way.

OK, I think I get the joke (I think it is more or less a joke) about the ice cubes. Little slow ‘cuz I’m not a drinker. Still wouldn’t kill all the microbes.

Eh, just that she is Caucasian, foreign, Blonde,++++

Hoping that another male should accompany her from airport to hotel.

She has never traveled internationally, and asked for advice/websites that might give her more information on what exactly to expect at the US airport as well athe Mexico City airport...looking for some first-hand advice or blogs Thanks.

One of the best places for Americans and others to visit or live in Mexico, is the Lake Chapala/ajijic area (State of Jalisco), about a 30 to 40 minutes drive from the airport at Guadalahara. Many ex-pats there, beautiful scenery, high and dry with excellent restaurants, etc. Been there three times and it was paradise. It’s really the only place I would go.

Yeah, that would be wise most places. Nothing that unusual about a blonde female in Mexico City, though.
