My favorite scene from the great old Jack Webb movie, The D.I....

Part one is available for watching, but just to set up this clip: Pvt. Owens, the platoon's screwup, slapped a sand flea after being ordered to take cover and freeze. So, now Sgt. Moore is going to drive home to the entire platoon the consequences of killing a sand flea against orders.
Btw, several of the actors in this film (and this scene) were actual active duty Marines. The big guy Testo was a PFC, and Rodriguez and Hillbilly were E-5 and E-6, respectively.

I remember the scene, film, the theater, my date, and our pre-movie dinner, the whole sweet summer evening, as a college student home for the summer. My yen for those times is so deep that it hurts.
A nice but wistful memory for me, thanks!

Parris Island, 1989. This and ‘Sands of Iwo Jima’ were the two movies we were allowed to watch. Kinda funny, I bought my Dress cover used, and the name inside it was Owens.

I watched TO HELL AND BACK tonight. It’s sad that not many people even know who Audie Murphy was. When he died the network news gave the story a minute and a half.

When I got my Boot Camp leave in the fall of 1966, the local TV station’s “movie of the week” was this flick - it ran constantly, and it was a hoot watching...
