The Defense Department plans to let some illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children enlist in the military—a policy that comes as the Army is effectively firing active-duty soldiers due to budget cuts.

The Military Times reports that a program—called the Military Accessions Vital to National Interest, or MAVNI—which currently allows recruiters to search for foreign nationals with unique skills will be expanded to accommodate the new policy.

The Defense Department now wants to let in some illegal immigrants who enjoyed a reprieve under a 2012 Obama administration policy. That policy applied to those who came to the country before they were 16 years old and spares them from deportation. …

These illegal immigrants were supposed to have registered for Selective Service. They law requires all illegal immigrants between 18-26 unless prohibited by Treaty to REGISTER or: May Affect Citizenship application, NO Federal Jobs, No Federal Benefits, No Financial Aid (Federal) for school. The compliance rate for illegal immigrant men is close to ZERO. If they were here while age 18-26 and didn’t Register for Selective Service, it MAY AFFECT CITIZENSHIP status.

Barry is allowing them to break that law also.

There will be no coup because most Americans are just hoping to make it through the next two years, not realizing what damage this idiot can cause in those few years.

He has spent the past six years setting things up so that he could achieve his ultimate goal in the final push ... and that push is well underway.

So going back a few more years, if a 6 month old crawls or is carried across the border is he a “lawbreaker”? In your mind does the crawling demonstrate criminal intent? I don’t think the justice system has ever seen it that way. I think you will find very few cases in which children with ages in the single digits are convicted of crimes. Certainly not immigration law, not now or in previous administrations.

The problem is they have no allegiance to this country.Being illegal aliens themselves they are supporters and sympathizers with illegal aliens even to the point of smuggling other illegal aliens themselves.

Well of course. There are too many Americans in the military.

All I can say is that is not what I find here in southeastern WA state, migrant worker (and stayer) country. In fact, the kids tend to identify with USA symbols at sports and stuff. I know many of them. They actually reject the Mexican culture because that’s their parents “old stuff”. This is the only country many of them ever knew. None of these kids are involved with smuggling illegals - I don’t know what you’re talking about.

What I see is that the older teenagers and young adults coming across are the ones bringing the Mexican flags and other relatives with them.

Because when the time comes illegals have no skin in the game, so they’ll follow orders to kill Americans.

They are in the country illegally. It has nothing to do with how or when they got here; it has nothing to do with the intent or absence of intent of the child.

The 7-year old did not commit a crime by being brought here illegally as a child, because such a child is not held to criminal liability. However, once they reach the age of 18 they are, in fact, breaking the law by remaining here.

However, if they are under age 18, they should, by law, be deported. They do not deserve to be imprisoned, or fined, for coming here illegally as children, or for remaining here as children, but they do deserve to be deported. Then, they can apply to come in legally.

When the government ignores the rule of law, the rule of law becomes meaningless.

I would make these four observations:

1. You end up having to do a secret security clearance episode....no matter what service or what job you do. Typically, it means an arrest record check, and conviction check. If they can’t come to some conclusion....like you spent your whole life in El Salvador, and they can’t get to the records....you don’t pass the clearance. I’m kinda curious....will they waive the clearance, and just let a bunch of these guys remain on duty, with no clearance (an entire new concept)?

2. Most of these guys don’t speak English to any degree where you could attend a military training school (tank repair, supply, admin, computers, etc). Same issue for boot-camp. How would you take “Juan” and get him through Marine boot-camp and give him a trade?

3. Some, not all, but some of these illegals are really just agents of some drug-cartel gang. Are we capable of determining this and weeding out the prospects? If not....we are simply bringing the cartel into secure operations and discovering eight years from now that we have 150 agents within the US military who work for the cartels.

4. Finally...no matter what service we are talking about....the illegals will have to socialize and train with regular American guys/gals. Their social status, and voting habits will end up changing as they get more into the “system”. I hate to suggest this...but if you allowed ten thousand into the service....probably ninety percent of them would end up as conservative voters down the line.

And I imagine the illegals will be allowed to swear in on korans and their home county’s flag. It be racist to make an illegal Honduran to swear alegiance to Old Glory.

I'm not suggesting that children be put into prison. I'm suggesting that people who are in this country illegally -- ANYONE who is in this country illegally -- be deported.

Look, there are sad stories all over the place. Yeah, I shot both my parents, but the court should have pity on me: I'm an orphan!

You cannot just obviate laws because someone has a sob story. Oh, you crossed the border when you were 5? I'm sorry to hear that. But here's the law, and this is why we're deporting you. Have a nice day.

We have a major illegal immigration problem in this country, and if we start thinking of reasons why this case, and this case, and this case are really "special" and can't be addressed by actual rule of law, then we have no hope of ever dealing with the problem.

Someday, people will get so soft of this topic that they might even allow illegal aliens to serve in the military!!

Oh ... wait a minute ...
