Microsoft event to talk about fresh-start Windows 9

Not bad at all. I see it as a bonus. Especially if Microsoft does software efficiency stress test on modifications. Without all the overhead bloat, Windows would probably fly like it had wings.

Everything is annoying on W-8. The right side pop up commands are annoying. They don't show up when you need them and always do when you don't want them too such as trying to scroll a page. IE 11 is another problem. I had to give up on it and go to Pale Moon. Pale Moon works great and IMO is far better than IE11. No more browser crashers. IE 11 was crashing or nor opening pages several times an hour. IE 11 is not Window Friendly meaning Tabs on or crash.

W-8 should have never been released by MS as a desktop/laptop OS. MS also changed a lot of terminology on W-8 which added more to the confusion. Having never used a computer before just WEB-TV I was using W/98SE in a matter of a few hours to where most of my time wasn't spent trying to locate program functions or files. W/ME I bought the upgrade disk on my 98/2 was a pathetic joke. I could not even in safe mode stop the OS from writing to the HD so Disk Scan and Defrag could be accomplished. I uninstalled W/ME.

W/XP took me an hour or two and was stable. Three computers running XP and only one reformat in ten years between the three combined IMO is an outstanding stable OS. I didn't buy W/7/ because W/XP met my needs.

W/8 made me cuss fuss and took literally weeks to get set up & used too because they played hide and seek with programs, files, and other functions. Windows also went to an APPS set up on W/8. Functions that came with XP were no longer there such as a decent Mail Client. But MS would rent you one though. I would have been forced to fork over about $100 to MS just to regain access to many of my text documents had it not been for LibreOffice Program which is free and not MS.

W/8 was like going onto a car lot with money to buy a mid size car as you had done in years past and the dealer saying here's your Yugo and they stripped out everything you need including windshield wipers you could rent. But I want a mid size sedan that's equipped? You'll take the Yugo, buy options we offer you, and you'll like it. Our corporate office says so. If I seem anti MS {remember I bought four previous machines with successful stable releases and had no complaints} my complaints are only about proven bad OS designs that MS purposely released for the sake of a release. The designers of W/8 and the QA department who vetted it should have been fired. MS should have pulled it using W/7 as replacement and started over.

And people can b*tch about Google too because they do the same thing especially with their Maps program or their Chat interfaces. People get used to using those apps and all of a sudden Google downloads an update and many things are changed.

And Mac? In my experience Mac can be really clunky or slow or too many clicks to do a simple task.

There’s plenty of gripes to go around.

But I came here to learn something about Windows 9 ideas/plans. Instead too many people are griping about things that are so easy to fix.

And if you read the thread you would see that people already covered that Win 8 doesn’t have by itself a reset feature for the classic start menu but Win 8.1 does. It’s already been covered!

But the more important point is this is not supposed to be a b*tch session about Windows 8. This is supposed to be a discussion about what Windows 9 might look like. People are more interested in wasting time b*tching than in discussing Windows 9.

There has to be discussion about W/9 because of the major W/8 screwed up rushed released caused the speed up release of W/9. You can't reasonably discuss one without discussing the other.

The question is what lessons did MS learn if any? Will they listen or are they still simply going to push more of the same meaning a Game System/X-BOX/tablet OS off onto Laptop/Desktops user which many persons including businesses and medical fields still use? Did MS learn their lesson or are they continuing their arrogance that W/8 was not a mistake?

I'll definitely have to see a significant change for the better before I even consider trying it much less putting down money to upgrade. More in this same direction IMO is not a change for the better. If MS Corp thinks all is forgiven this time they are sadly mistaken. It's pathetic when a private release browser works better on a MS OS than their own browser and is more stable. It's pathetic when Third Parties have to FIX MS major blunders for them.

I wasn’t simply griping. I was informing you that your single-user, parochial viewpoint is woefully limited in its scope. Similarly, you just came back and essentially told me that my analysis was garbage because it didn’t fit your happy-go-lucky acceptance of wasted time and effort to undo something that shouldn’t have been done.

I’m glad you enjoy Windows 8 and/or 8.1. I find neither acceptable for a host of reasons. And I spent some of my valuable time to try and educate you on some of those reasons. Sorry I wasted my time, as you are obviously irrationally exuberant about the tile interface.

That article someone linked said that there will still be a charms thing but it won’t do anything in desktops, only for touch screens.

Weird. One of the most annoying things possible is having icons and stuff on your desktop that don’t do anything.

I don’t use Windows 8 or 8.1. If you had read the thread you would read that I use Windows 7. As I posted previously I am not a big Windows fan but Windows 7 works for me and I have no reason to change.

I came here to read about Windows 9 and instead see a bunch of crybabies b*tch about the classic start menu lacking and then I find it’s fixable in less than a minute for free.

Your long diatribe about how fixing the start menu on Windows 8 or 8.1 took so much time and energy was blatant rubbish in the face of reality of a simple free fix that takes less than a minute. It added nothing to the discussion about Windows 9 which was supposed to have been the subject of this thread.

I see a small cabal of idiotic anti-Microsoft posters on blogs and forums throughout the internet. They are either paid to slander Microsoft or they are idiots. And I read there’s a lot of other highly functional added features that enhance user experience especially as to customization and integrating mobile apps.

Importantly there’s a user feedback opportunity:

“Microsoft has created a new Windows Insider Preview Program so that users can get more frequent preview builds and provide feedback to the company.”

So there should be no excuse for users to gripe that Microsoft turned their world upside down.

I am well over 45.

And I have no grandkids near me to fix the woes of my computer experience.

What I do have is an ability to use a search engine like Google, Bing, Ask, Yahoo or so many others.

And almost every time my searches take me to YouTube videos in which young people have taken the time to explain how to fix problems simply and for free.

There is no excuse today.

MS Screwed up major on W8. You are the one who needs a clue. It's not just a start menu issue the entire OS is dysfunctional. So much so Third Party programs such as Pale Moon are needed to make it work. I've used nothing but Microsoft OS since W/98 but W/8 was a rip off. I refuse to buy another MS OS until they prove they can listen and produce an easy to use stable System that the learning curve isn't weeks.

When you have customers saying to MS corporation that they would pay the W/8 price to keep functional and reliable XP so as not to have to use their Botched product W/8 such a corporation has issues.

Now for W/9 discussion. Just what have they done in W/9 to return to a quality user friendly product? It's it's more of the same X-Box Squares hide and seek programs and files they can keep it. People do not buy desktops and laptops for a Tablets, Games, and cell phone, type OS. I refuse to be ripped off again.

I was going to read this thread now, but I’m busy trying to load iOS 8.0.2 on all my devices after uninstalling iOS 8.0.1 from all my devices which was installed on all my devices as as upgrade to iOS 8.0.0 on all my devices following its recent release as an iOS upgrade for all your devices ......

And Apple gets praised for this while Microsoft products are called "buggy".

I talked to the floor sales person and he said the Windows 8 machines would be fixed but each time after the next few days someone would sabotage them again. All the Macs were working just fine.

What does that tell you?

That windows 8 is so fragile, it can be screwed up by someone in minutes, even if it's just a demo model? That the "techs" at the place had no idea how to actually lock the things down so they couldn't be screwed with?
