One minute, Emily Miles was walking her dogs in a Santa Barbara County avocado grove, the next, a hulking 300-pound black bear was sinking its teeth into her left thigh after tackling her to the ground..

"Looking at him, I knew he could kill me in an instant," Miles, 65, said in an interview aired by KTLA.

Gee, thanks for the extra special help, Big Government!

Hey Emily,

A 12 gauge side by side coach gun is the perfect companion when a lone woman takes her dogs for a walk in a tree orchard as fall approaches, or in any season for that matter.

Personal safety is a personal responsibility.

Still, Miles said she doesn't want state game wardens to hurt or kill it.

So this witless wonder would prefer that this bear attack/kill another innocent person in the future?

Yet-another-bear-attack Ping!

Maybe there's something in the water this year...

Yeah, you can never tell when a ‘roid rage avocado might attack. Orchards are deadly places.

I knew of an Indian woman in Canada who played dead and survived. Her husband told us the story. the bear approached her and slapped her around, she fell to the ground and played dead. the bear buried her with dirt rocks and sticks and then it left. When she was certain it was gone, she got up and ran home. He wounds took years to heal, according to her husband.

***In addition to the bite, Miles suffered a cracked rib and deep claw marks on her back during Monday’s attack.

Still, Miles said she doesn’t want state game wardens to hurt or kill it.***

What is it with some people? She knew by looking at it that it would try to kill her, so she fought it and survived, yet she doesn’t want it to be hurt or killed if/when it’s captured. I guess she thinks she already taught it a lesson, and that it won’t try to hurt another person or animal contrary to its nature. I have no words.

Just read it.

I’d say a well placed 30:06 bullet is humane and though they said the bear was probably tracking the dogs it didn’t attack them, it attacked the woman.

Should be a sure death sentence for the bear but this is touchy feely California F & G, they’ve certainly changed since I lived there.

I, too, am in disbelief upon reading that. I liked that you referred to her as a witless wonder. Sums her up nicely.

“side by side “

I think I’d rather have my old trusty 1100, with 5 shots. One bird/buckshot for it’s eyes, and a couple of big slugs for a front shoulder to make it stop running. Then a couple more slugs for the finale.

You obviously don’t know rut season(right now) or how bears behave as fall approaches. But I do see your point on the surface. One crop short of Killer Tomatoes!

"the bear was probably tracking the dogs it didn’t attack them, it attacked the woman."

She was slower and made less noise.

LOL! You’re so right, that’s why the dogs took her along.

Sarcasm tag buddy! People are feeling mighty cranky around here today. Earlier I was accused of awful things, and I even included my /s, to no avail. Humorless is the mood out there.

Sadly, someone else may have to die before the Cal authorities do something about this. I was born and raised there. So glad I left that hellhole more than two decades ago.
