Me, too. Contrary to popular belief, there is no requirement for the CIC to return a salute from a uniformed military person. I wish he would simply nod an acknowledgement and move on. Saluting is for men and women of honor. He has none.

They’re saluting the Office of the President of the United States of America, and the Commander in Chief of her military. The ‘person’ (and I use that term loosely in this case), is irrelevant.
I still empathize with those who have to salute.
Although, it reminds me of the (supposed) Voltaire quote, “I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write.”.
