Remind me never to pass you on the interstate, since “blind spots” to you mean you’re not culpable for any accidents you cause due to your actions.

So what does that mean legally? I don’t understand the difference I guess, The Sheriff said he would investigate and turn over evidence to DA and leave it up to him to file charges or not, that happened a week ago and now they say its going to a grand jury... So I am assuming the DA did not have enough evidence to file charges and turns it over to a grand jury??

For those of you who have never watched a race.... Gunning the motor in a sprint car is the way you make them turn... which Tony needed to do to avoid running over the hot headed kid that ran out in front of him... Unfortunately for Kevin, He needed to turn right (so the rearend slid to to the left, away from Kevin) and sprint cars don’t like to turn right... Unless you specifically understand sprint cars compared to everything other form of motor sports racing, you don’t know what you think you know!

There is a reason sanctioning bodies and other dirt tracks in the area changed their rules immediately, and it was not because they thought Tony did something wrong.

Two other dirt tracks in New York, on the Monday after the accident, changed their rules to read if a driver gets out of his car under yellow, it will trigger a red flag and that driver will be banned from the track for up to a year.

As long as the grand jury is made up of people that understand SPRINT car racing, Tony will be alright... If it is just your average joe off the street that are like some of the commenters in this thread (and every other one I have ever seen anywhere) and think he was racing a car like the families Camry they drive every day... He will be screwed!

“Kevin Ward was in Stewart’s blind spot”

Excuses, excuses, excuses.

You need to look at the video again:

http://youtu.be/TtkFYFyZ1ac

Now, you were saying about Sprint cars not liking to turn right. Steward needed to turn left. Turning right would have sent him into Ward’s car wrecked against the wall.

Not being in the outside blind spot coming out of a turn is something known to dirt track racers. It doesn’t apply to street driving. You’re comparing apples and oranges.

The enhanced video must show something that was missed in the early investigation.

"MUST?" Why, unless they're trying to take down Tony Stewart..........?

You don't jump out onto an active track to flip a finger to any driver unless you're willing to get your stupid ass run over..........

While tragic as it was, Kevin Ward was a rookie who violated the basic rules of car racing. It's apparent that PC is now entering into this arena of racing..........

See, that is the way I understood the whole turning thing (and since I am not familiar with sprint cars, I had to ask someone about it and they gave me a similar answer). I have watched more than my share of NASCAR—although not in more recent years.

As a professor told us in a criminal justice class—you can indict a ham sandwich. I really hope the truth wins out in this one, but the media already has Tony Stewart behind bars.

I have never watched a race in my life. Seems like kind of a low-life sport to me. Never heard of Tony Steward before. Or the idiot running around in traffic.

Your comment reminds me of a virgin professor who tries to explain the experience of an orgasm.............

The dope was out of his car in the middle of a dirt track, under the lights, where cars drive around bent out throwing dirt and mud. Why would you think that a wise thing to do? A costly hissy fit is what it was.

Ummm, driver who sent the car into the wall is now dead, that would be Kevin Ward... He was behind Tony, Sprint car drivers cant see to their right and behind them from in the car. There are NO mirrors or spotters like they have in Nascar... If you watch the video closely, you will notice that Tony’s car does not move at all as Kevin goes spinning into the wall. Kevin got up into the cushion (the loose dirt up against the wall that has come off everybody’s tires) and hit the wall as he let off the gas to avoid Tony... Which was the proper thing to do, as Tony had the line and was ahead of him.
A little sprint car driving lesson for the unknowing, you step on the gas it turns left, you get off the gas quickly and it veers to the right, No matter what you are doing with the steering wheel. Steering just helps counteract what you do with the throttle, Turn the wheel left as you are gassing it, you will spin the car, turn the wheel right as you gas it and you go down the straight or around the left turn correctly... depending how much you turn it.
As Kevins car is spinning, look closely, his left front tire is still in the correct place and aired up... It is not dangling and falling off the car or flat as it would be from just making hard contact with the left rear drive tire on Tony’s car.
Judging only by the one video released, Tony most likely did not have a clue that Kevin or anybody else wrecked until the yellow flag came out and I doubt he saw Kevin until the car in front of him swerved and barely missed him either.

I came up through Skip Barber who is the premier racing school in the US. Check it out. Have my SCCA license and have raced most of the major road courses in the country over the last 10 years.

I just watched the video again and there were cars going just as fast as Stewart if not faster. The blue car in front of Stewart almost hit Ward but Ward backed away at the last second. Stewart was a little bit higher up on the track. I don’t see where he did anything wrong. But Ward was clearly wrong to be out of his car challenging other cars on the track.

Take down Tony Stewart.

Apparently there is something in the enhanced video that has caused
this issue to be sent to a grand jury.
Something that was not clear in the original video.

I don’t know what it might be, nor do you.
It may not be anything, it may be something that contradicts Stewart’s
story. Who knows.

You can moan and groan about it if it makes you feel better.
But the fact is, a grand jury will look at the evidence and either indict
or not indict.

link. Look at that link and watch Tony Stewart do the exact same thing as Ward to Kenny Irwin at Martinsville in 1999. Only difference is that Kenny didn't spin the tires and slap Tony with the car.

If you don’t know that if you run into traffic on a racetrack you might get hit you weren’t listening. It is drilled into drivers since you first started racing.

Stewart meant to spray him with dirt, but hit the throttle just a bit too soon....that was obvious when it happened.

According to who? have you any idea the physics involved in dirt cart racing, the types of frames and tires they use and how they maneuver the track?

But lets put your ignorance of those types of cars aside,

RULE #1: You don't jump out of your crashed car and run onto an active track to flip the bird to another driver who is doing 70 MPH on a dirt track at night with only track lighting and expect that driver to be able to avoid running your stupid ass over........

I never said it was "a wise thing to do". I was just pointing out - with a photo - the the VETERAN Stewart is just as guilty of the same nonsense as the ROOKIE Ward.

Sheesh...

By a New York District Attorney........

Of course there is, the same PC crap that will ultimately bring down the NFL is now at work on car racing..........

************

Very possible but it may also be that the DA and others involved may just want to have
a Grand Jury render a verdict via indict or not. That way they are taken off the hook.

Don’t be so touchy. Your comparison was kind of lame though. Your pic of Stewart, in the infield, yelling at someone is a bit different than this incident. I don’t know much about racing. I heard Stewart is a bit of a hot head. I also read how much he has done for his sport. Just would hate to see someone get screwed because someone else is an idiot. Happens all the time...I hate to be “sheeshed”..:)My comment was to everyone. My bad.
