To Rush Limbaugh: Losing a Listener
Vanity | Septermber 16, 2014 | Morris Poston

I'm a dyed in the wool ditto-head and have been so for many years. To be honest, I'm finding you less and less "listenable." You seem to be losing your edge. While I download your podcasts, I more and more frequently find myself fast-forwarding past the lengthy spiels on the latest I-phones, sports happenings, and your winning your umpteenth Marconi Award, that is, when I bother to listen at all. Listening to your broadcast used to be the highpoint of everyday. I never thought I'd say this but I no longer count it a great lose if I go for days without listening. I'm heartsick to say it. Please don't think this is a plant or that I'm a seminar caller. Check it and you'd see that I've subscribed since the beginning. I may not do so any longer. Maybe it can be summed up like this: I used to find hope by listening to you but it seems like even you have lost hope. I could say more but won't, except for this: I'm a rock-ribbed, hard core, conservative listener and have been for years. If you've lost me, you've probably lost several thousands. For what it's worth......

Nothing against Rush, but these days I have little patience to listen to any talker for more than a few minutes. Don't know why. Maybe because there is so much bad news these days. The criminality, incompetence and treachery of the Obama administration is wearying and depressing. Maybe depressing us is part of the master plan. When we are finally worn down, we will be easier to dominate.

Right on. I have to agree. What are your thoughts about Michael Savage? Just asking.

I know what you mean.

I think it is a function of Rush seeing the sand running through the hour glass and knowing that he will not be on air “forever” to guide us. I think he has hoped to inspire others to join him and lead. Sometimes I see him as wistful like Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, wondering how everyone is going to cope when he is gone.

I find Hannity’s and Levin’s voices irritating, and Glenn Beck is a goof ball half the time.

I am going to enjoy Rush as long as he puts it out there, and hope that others follow his lead.

So does mine...and I’m using it more and more...guess you could say I’m a little “loose” with the dial.

Love it when he gets into good argument with a (smart-ass) liberal...one that continues over several breaks. They don’t happen often enough for me,but when they do, it’s like landing a big fish. Makes my whole day.

Not fond of iPhones but you are totally missing the point on the NFL. I think this may well be THE cultural front-lime battleground because it has for so long defined America (vs soccer) and masculinity, so he's dead on. Personally, I don't want another Hannity who repeatedly interviews Jamie Dupree or his little stable of pollsters.

And while I don't think Rush has put it together yet on technology---see the Drudge stories on smart robots---in fact the "cell phone" has become THE single biggest tech driver on the planet and we aren't close yet to appreciating the vast nature of its impact.

There is something that comes with age other than growing older. It is also expected that one would be a bit of an eccentric and short tempered, to the point and not shy about making that point. In essence, with age comes release as you just no longer care what people think of you even if you should choose to tell them the truth. That same point was reached here about 6 years ago when caution was thrown to the winds. Speaking your mind does tend to release the bounds of the soul. You are certainly not alone.

Don’t you love it though! No one can deliver a punch like he can! Those who take him on had best pack a lunch. I don’t want him to lose that! Someone mentioned that perhaps he is starting to hold back a little to give others an opening to take the lead because he’s not going to be around forever. Maybe he’s right, I don’t know. I thought he made a good point.

Rush, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Mark Steyn, Sean Hannity are all or can be enriching whereas especially Michael Medved is a complete turnoff.

I stopped years ago listening/viewing all of them on a daily basis as I also stopped watching O’Reilly completely.

Here’s where I find them of value now. I scan throughout the day news headlines and commentary especially here. If something in the news heats up where I think Rush, Mark or the others would add insight, I tune them in. In other words, news items on the internet key me to tune in talk radio or a livestream from Fox or some other broadcast outlet.

I have no TV programming in my home, only internet and radio. Direct TV, Dish Network, Comcast and the like have been out of my home for more than 5 years now. I tried them all at one time or another over the last 15 to 20 years.

I find it sad to see someone watching television programming these days. It seems so wasteful of life unless it’s supplemented with intelligent commentary on how to be aware of how what’s being watched forms one’s views and outlook. Rush is a master at raising this kind of awareness.

No matter how news finds a way into the home, Rush Limbaugh will forever be known as a great teacher of how to read and process the media and its streams into society. No one can touch him in his ability to point out how the media attempts to shape opinion. His focus is almost always on the intentions behind media events rather the events themselves. He should receive lifetime awards and always be remembered for his contribution to making Americans smarter and wiser.

My mind’s always drifted when Rush starts going on and on about sports. But he’s been a godsend for this country, and he’s entertaining. I still like to listen to him.

I stop listening on a daily basis for the opposite reason. Since zer0 was emaculated the news has gotten not only depressing but infuriating. I have limited my exposure to Rush, as he tells it like it is. I used to be mad when he went off on golf, football, apple computer tangents. Now I find them a welcome break from the defacto destruction of America that Rush, so poignantly GETS.

I stopped listening to his radio program many years ago. I figure if he says anything really worthwhile, I’ll read about it here.

Ditto!

His CULTURAL insights are always ahead of the pack. feminazis are destroying our country and he calls them out on it. once our men are feminized or radicalized, America ends.

As far as politics, how much can you say when just about EVERY political being has a price and flip flops daily? We are going down the toilet...I believe Rush talks about the things WE can do something about - the rest is lost. Hopefully he sticks it out to the end with the rest of us.

I’m with you. I’ve always liked and admired Rush but don’t listen as often as I used to. On the other hand, I have become overfed with Hannity, Levin, O’Reilly, and a few others. I’ve known Mark Levin for many years and like him a lot, but his anger is off putting. I really don’t like to be shouted at, and Mark does shout.

There is a fresh new (nationally) voice coming from Washington. He has been on WMAL in Washington for several years and can be seen on occasion on one of the Fox TV shows. He is Chris Plante. He is now in other cities (We get him on Memphis radio)I’m pretty sure that you can get WMAL online.

Thanks for that. Do you ever wonder if political correctness hasn’t seeped into the culture so much until almost no one tells what they honestly think anymore? The politicians are masters at shading the truth when it would be in their best interest to do so. But then again, I can be very hard on them. And I’ve often found myself holding my punches to spare people’s feelings so how can I blame them? But the left sure doesn’t seem to pull their punches. The country has become such a disaster we’d sure better not hold ours. I’d like to know your thoughts.

I tried listening to Savage... as he was coming on right after TGO... I eventually grew tired of every show being about the show... I grew similarly weary of Stern back when he was only on 3 stations.

With Savage, what I would do was tune in and as soon as he would start talking about his ratings or mocking Hannity as a "wallbanger", he got zotted. That's how I cqme across Jason Lewis, on Tune-In... though I don't listen to anyone right now.

Ditto. Rush is a teacher and more effective than the NEA and the DOE combined.

Correction: The politicians are masters at shading the truth when it WOULDN’T be in their best interest to do so.
