Someone is going to get “unfriended” on Facebook real soon. From WKMG-TV in Orlando, Fla.:

According to police, Patricia Denault poured herself a shot of Fireball cinnamon whiskey and took a picture of her son taking a sip. She posted that picture on Facebook, but someone saw that picture and called the police.

"Me taking a picture and putting it on Facebook, I thought it was funny," Denault said.

Denault was arrested on Wednesday, charged with child neglect after she said three uniformed officers and Child Protective Services came to her house and interviewed her kids.

Fireball is a sweet liquer and much too tempting to let little kids try. It should only be drunk in small amounts.

I had gotten into the habit of pouring a tumbler of it over ice in the evening, sipping 2-4 oz with a cigar. After a couple months my fingers & toes started tingling with neuropathy pain, so I went back to bourbon and soda over ice with just a dash of Fireball. The pain went away.

Great thing about being old: We were young and stupid - and did all that stupid stuff - before the internet.

Oh, and obviously her experiment was not “that” controlled...

Stupidity for posting online. Trolls are everywhere.

I turned a guy in on Myspace who was a friend of my daughters for bragging about outrunning the cops but sideswiping a couple of cars in the chase, and showing the damage to his car. I researched the picture before I called the cops, but didn’t research enough. I eventually searched on the jpg name and found that it was a photo from an auto body shop from another state showing before pictures of a car they worked on.

IOW, It might be fun to set up trolls, if you have the time to deal with the hassle. What if this lady had actually given her kids cherry coolaid? ;-)

Which part is the bad parenting? Letting them have a sip of alcohol, or posting a picture of it on Facebook?

The latter.

The former was done all the time back in the day. It was called cough syrup.

Even when I was a kid, most parents allowed kids to sample alcohol at home, on special occasions, and that is still the case around here-it hasn’t produced a bunch of raging drunks.

If there was any “child abuse” done by that woman, it was the posting of personal stuff on Farcebook-not letting the kid taste something in their own home. Farcebook is a magnet for those who want attention, take a pic/make a video of every detail of their personal business to post there, then wonder why they get in trouble...

My best friend as a kid lived across he street from us.His parents were both born in,and grew up in,France but he and his siblings were all born here.Danny used to say that everyone, including the kids, drank wine at dinner which,I was told, was a basic French tradition.

Actually, at that fancy dinner in Paris, one of the beverages served with a course was blackberry juice and vodka.

I don’t drink liquor, well, maybe once in a blue moon I might have a finger or two of Makers Mark. But it’s damn rare. Can’t stand the hard stuff.

But yea, beer and wine are one thing, booze another.

I was about that age and curious... My dad and his buddies were at the kitchen table and they would have a few drinks while playing cards, I was curious so he have me a little bit of whiskey in a shot glass....

I remember running to the bathroom crying with a burning mouth... I never asked for whiskey for another 10 years....

I had a similar experience, except my grandfather let me try some Genesee. Like you, I didn't touch a beer (or any other booze) for over a decade. I drink beer and wine now, but not Genesee, not because I am traumatized but because it is terrible.

“Mother runs over lady on phone.”

The best way to convince to the authorities that your decision to leave your kids in a hot car JUST FOR A FEW MINUTES, which, if it really is just few minutes, is not going to cause them harm,

is NOT to run over a lady with a phone.

The mother in your example had several arrests, including assault and domestic violence, to her name, before she ran over the people. Not a great example for your point.

I haven’t tried it myself but I’ve been told that Fireball stuff is pretty potent, not something you would let a young child “try.” I’m not saying it’s a crime, though.

Tagline invoked :)

Go for it! Just keep the real me out of it. Oh, wait - no worries there. Even by some IP address snooping or such. ;-)

This mother gave her 7-year-old a shot of 66-proof whiskey and posted the photo of him drinking it to Facebook because—in her words—she “thought it was funny.” This isn’t helping your kid learn your culture by giving him a sip of wine at the dinner table. Since she was ready to take the picture, there’s little doubt that her whole intent was to get a funny photo of his reaction to drinking the fireball cinnamon booze. I wonder how many people would be here defending her against the “nanny state” if she’d let him take a hit off her bong.

as far as I know it is no crime to provide alcohol to your children in your home

It is indeed a crime in the state of Florida.
