Ah, privacy. Remember growing up with NO fenced yards. It was fun.

It should also include power management that calculates a safe return relative to remaining power and overrides the controller in the event the fail-safe point is near breach.

I would say the owner is very lucky. If it landed in my back yard, it probably wouldn’t leave. Since I live near a small airport, I would hold onto it and advise the FAA that an aircraft that put general aviation in danger is being held, pending the owner identifying himself for further prosecution.

(You are more likely to find krugerrands in a Cracker Jack box then 22 ammo at Wal-Mart)

The LAST thing I would do is call the police. It would simply become my drone.

Superman emerged, grabbed the ring and flew back to the farm. They didn’t even see him? Yeh...that’s how fast he is!!

I have one of these, the vision 2+ version. Had it since July and it’s fun as heck to fly. The video is awesome and pics incredible. http://www.dji.com
Battery life is 20-30 minutes so two batteries are goo, four best!! I am still a rookie with RC flying but have done up to 800 ft altitude and quarter mile away.
GPS positioning with return home feature if you lose contact
http://www.phantompilots.com is a great forum.
UAV hobbies tsa don’t like using “ drone for obvious reasons.
Almost all the stuff I read online from pilots shoes great respect for privacy. You can see tons of quad copter vid on YouTube .

"If I lived in the neighborhood, I would be a little concerned," said Lt. Dave Williams with the Allen Park Police Department.
I'd be more concerned about dumb cops, Lt.

These things are like RC airplanes of the past. The tech is so good now you get some very capable and fun ones for a hundred dollars. They are sold everywhere The world is not ending True but you did leave out one small but critical detail. The typical hobby RC planes of the past {I remember seeing them as far back as the early 1960's BTW} did not have the capabilities to take pictures nor record sound and as such threatened no ones privacy. Right?
