Before the Pritchetts and Dunphys, or the Cosbys, or the Bradys -- before the Cleavers, even -- there were Ozzie and Harriet Nelson and their sons, David and Ricky.
For 14 years and 435 episodes, the Nelsons starred in a TV show about themselves, filmed on sets that replicated their own Los Angeles home.

Now I remember Faustino. John Aylward stands out most in my memory.
Much of it was due to their wanting to spare us the hardships they endured in their youth (Great Depression). They spared us the trials of their youth without realizing that those very trials were instrumental in forging their character. Great showbiz phenomenon, the Nelsons - I used to listen to them all the time on radio and later watched when they moved to TV - they also made a couple of movies as a family, and you can still catch Ozzie and Harriet - sometimes still Harriet Hilliard - in movies they made when TCM shows them - they played one just a week or so ago with Ozzie leading his band and Harriet playing some college administrator, looking so young I wouldn’t have recognized her except she had star billing next to Ozzie - good times, good times......
Although Ozzie published his autobiography in the last years of his life with his Christian image intact, pesky rumors followed him later on that he was in actuality an atheist. They remain just that -- rumors. At the age of 13, he became one of the youngest persons to become an Eagle Scout.
