My late father loved him some BIG Chevies...when I turned 16 I learned to to drive (and parallel park!) on his (then) years old Impala. It was a boat. NO power steering, and I remember practically having to stand up to tap the highbeam thingy on the floor.

This was back in the day when you turned 16 and there was NO waiting period—you just got your license on r you passed (first try for me ). Scary thing was my late mom (and Auntie) NEVER drove and they saw my DL as their freedom (to get to suburban malls). As a newbie licensed 16 year old driver I took the 3 of us to Monroeville Mall (taking the Parkway East from Oakland) driving THAT barge of an Impala.

When each of my kids got their licenses, I remember THAT and wonder “what were they thinking?”

I had that same car. My dad gave it to me when I was 17 (in 1977). I had no idea why until I had to fill it with gas.

Not much on corners but on the straights it was a rocket on rails.

Then I bought a 1973 BMW 2002 and promptly rolled it the first weekend I had it.

In 1988, my 1973 LTD was stolen while parked in front of the University of Southern California. The door was locked and I had the key, so someone was determined to steal the car. probably became a taxicab in Tijuana.

I replaced it with a 1984 Ford Crown Victoria that was essentially a lemon.

Land yacht. Huge, squishy seats, squishy suspension and inexplicably a vinyl top.

When I turned 16, I took my Driving Test in my Mom’s 63 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. I think it was nearly 19 feet long.
The DMV Examiner walked out, looked at the long haired Punk behind the wheel of the Beast and said, really?

The sad thing was she got rid of her Pink 59 Cadillac Coupe DeVille when she got the 63.

Back then the 59 was just another Car. How I wish we still had that puppy. Restored it would be worth a mint.

My Parents even owned a 55 Caddy Biarritz Convertible and a 58 Sedan Deville back in the late 50’s.

I think I watch all those Auto Auctions on Cable just to beat my self up. LOL

My dad still has this old Seville. It might even still run.

My folks had a 74 LTD 4 door with a 400. That old Lincoln Trimmed Down could hold 100-110 no problem. The fuel gauge would drop even faster.

Mine was a ‘66 that I bought at an abandoned vehicle auction. Paid $75 for it and ran it for two years. Man that thing was great on the highway!
