Did the NFL suspend Ray Rice indefinitely after he was given an initial 2 game suspension because A.) they saw the video inside the elevator, or B.) because we saw the inside-the-elevator video?
If it is because of A, then why did they formulate a 6 game suspension to be followed by banning for a second offense and not apply the 6 game rule to Ray Rice? If this is because the inside-the-elevator video surfaced, then will the NFL have a system for those who are caught by video and those not caught by video?
In the end, IMHO, Ray Rice should have been given indefinite suspension when the outside-the-elevator video surfaced, and not just a 2 game suspension, and let him earn his return like Michael Vick did.
BLUF - I am not impressed with the “life-long” suspension.
Wasn’t Mike Vick supposed to suspended indefinitely in 2007 after the dog fighting charges surfaced? Didn’t Vick serve 18 months in a Federal Prison? Wasn’t he reinstated and picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009?
Guess “life-long” and “indefinite” mean different things for you and me and football stars.
Yes but not because people will start tuning out [they won't, violence is appreciated by fans] Yes because it is the right thing to do.
I demand it accurately reflect race demographics in its player rosters. Then I will watch it, MAYBE.
...true enough...but of course will never happen because...well, just because...
...diversity is for everyone, but for some more than others...
“Yeah, but he comes down with a life suspension. Kinda harsh, dont you think?”
Ray Rice will be back in the League within a year. Goodell will get a liberal female figure to act as Rice’s P-O and Rabbi — say Oprah Winfrey. Rice will go on her show along with his wife to do a nationwide interview. Suitably chastened for the Left & wishy-washy Middle, the commissioner will have enough cover to reinstate.
The Michael Vick two-step!
Im all for the discipline, but there should be some opportunity for redemption

This wasn’t just a case of wife beating. She could have been gravely injured or killed by that blow He is not a flabby Joe Sixpack; he is a powerful athlete who is basically a battering ram on the field.
After being knocked unconscious she was dragged out of elevator like a bag of trash. You’re very forgiving but some behavior is so violent and disgusting it has to be severely punished.
He has made at least $25 million so he has the resources redeem/rehabilitate himself. There’s nothing stopping him from doing this on his own.
If they truly want quotas, I am for it.
...so am I...let’s have quotas everywhere, except of course where I work...
Nobody said indefinitely is life time. There’s a separate life time ban. Indefinite suspension means just what the word means according to the dictionary: without fixed or specified limit, not clearly defined. In practical terms it means “we’ll talk about this later”, for Vick they revisited it after he got out of jail.
Everybody is seeing what they want to see in this video.
It is very jerky. You can not see motion. You can not hear any audio.
It could well be that Rice barely touched his wife, and merely knocked her down when she was already falling-down drunk.
Or it could be that he smacked her like the Russian Drago hitting Rocky in Rocky IV.
But the characterization that he “knocked her out cold” is manifestly false. A minute after she fell, she was sitting on the floor and moving under her own power.
There is little in that video that cannot be attributed to drunkenness, which is something they both admitted to.
BECAUSE WE SAW IT........
The NFL is BIG BROTHER on steroids. No question it knew every detail of this assault.
The NFL protects the NFL first and foremost and no one should be confused.
The only surprising part is that they wrongly thought that the video would never be seen by the public.
I’m not buying the excuse that they just became aware of the elevator video.
A secret is only a secret if the one person with the secret knows and doesn’t tell anybody.
There were enough security cameras and security people that it was bound to come out
He should have had her fight against some pit bulls and then hang her and shoot her after she lost.
You’re right, thank you for the correction.
Upon hearing her state Ray has never hit her, and her assurance that it was an accident, and they are both in counseling, and blah-blah-blah. It was simple to resolve if you were Roger Goodell. Take leniency and give him only two games suspension, CONDITIONED UPON THE TAPE CORRABORATING THEIR STORY!!!. "Ray, have your lawyers send us the tape. As soon as we see it, we'll announce only 2 games. If we don't get the tape, you are suspended indefinitely, until we finish our investigation (which will not be concluded until we get a copy of the tape)."
End of story
I read somewhere, maybe here, that the video with audio was really bad.
.
- Ray Rice - another “Son of Obama” . . .

I am struggling with whether an employer has the right to terminate someone for something done at home.

Testing positive on a drug test? Just a thought.
You have a right as an employer to demand that I not be impaired on your job site. Other then that it should be no ones business what you do on your own time. That's my point. How long before they weigh you before you can have lunch?
Yuck it up! Ask the smokers how long it became for them to become a pariah?
Longer version?
Regardless of video, how dumb does the NFL think fans are?
What do they think happened to her ? did a ceiling tile fall on her head?
They saw the video when the gave him the two game suspension. When the video hit the internet the NFL banned him and he got cut from the Ravens.
So, ya know...
