Emma Sulkowicz is turning her assault into art -- and a protest against Columbia University's sexual assault policy
On the first day of her sophomore year of college, Emma Sulkowicz was raped in her dorm room bed. The Columbia University senior says the perpetrator was a fellow student. He still is and has been since he allegedly assaulted Sulkowicz and two other female students. As Sulkowicz reported in Time earlier this year, all three cases against her offender were dismissed. So, shes not taking it anymore.
After joining a federal complaint in April over Columbias mishandling of rape cases and speaking out about the schools failure to address her assault, Sulkowicz is now embarking on yet another effort an artistic one to make change on campus. For her senior thesis project, the visual arts major will perform what she is calling an endurance art piece, in which she will carry around a standard twin-size dorm room mattress with her everywhere she goes, until her rapist is removed from school.

The comments here are pathetic. They assume the woman is lying or she was somehow responsible for being raped.
If, as you say, you have a very attractive daughter, you should be very sobered after you read this thread.
Many of the posts blame the girl IF she was raped and don’t believe it even happened or if it did it was because of alcohol.
You should know, it does happen. Men will misbehave when others are not around. Decent men have no idea how often men behave poorly.
If there was any actual basis to this person's allegations, don't you think in this climate that the college wouldn't dare to NOT take steps?
Absolutely not. The colleges all cover up rapes on campus. Even some religious schools, e.g. Notre Dame
A couple of decades ago, I was a college freshman who was sexually assaulted (not raped, Praise the Lord because someone walked by). I was dressed very modestly...jeans & a rugby shirt, even had long underwear on underneath. This was a very good looking, smooth guy and it was a first date. I was very naïve about things, obviously since I wore cuddle duds on a date, but this was northern Minnesota. Nothing was seductive about me that night.
Everyone says that if a woman doesn’t scream or fight then it really isn’t an assult. I remember clearly being panicked and kept thinking that I needed to yell, or scream or something but was frozen silent.
I didn’t say one word to anyone, just started the transfer process. It was so embarrassing. We would have ended up on the same track so I am glad that I just got out of there.
If what she says happened is true, I can see why it took her a long time to report it and the humiliation and betrayal by a friend could push her over the edge.
