I think the left must recruit these idiots. Why did he have a chambered round? Why wasn’t the safety on? That’s what it’s for! Duh!

Hopefully he’s better at teaching chemistry than concealed carry. What a doofus.

Without a chambered round, it is as useful as a rock. Many guns do not have and do not need a safety, the best safety is between the ears.

I’m sorry, but that’s something that is basically impossible as described. Guns do not just go off by themselves. Ever.

Pocket carry does no mean just put a gun in your pocket. There is a device called a “pocket holster” that protects the trigger guard and keeps this stuff from happening. Take a class, research best practices, carry right or don’t carry.

There are pros and cons to carrying with a chambered round. And some handguns don’t HAVE a safety.

It would be nice to know precisely which handgun he was carrying, wouldn’t it?

But of course the phony journalist that scrawled this piece did not deem that important fact to be one we should know.

(The “journo” DID helpfully provide about twelve column inches delving into the politics of campus carry in Idaho, including the helpful information that a “republican-led legislature” passed the law allowing it.)

When done properly, the trigger is fully covered. How can it go off?

Unless the threat is imminent I don't chamber the round. Walking down the street yes. In a class room, no.

It does not take long to slide it back.

But I agree he's not very bright.

Pocket carry with no holster?

Always carry in a holster that covers the trigger guard.

He should probably keep his hands out of his pockets. Seriously, I don’t want it in my pants pocket. I prefer shoulder or ankle holsters. On a rare occasion maybe in a jacket pocket.

Pocket carry with no holster?

Probably. And he probably had other junk in his pocket. Pens, pencils, etc.

You should carry where you prefer to carry.
He should carry where he prefers to carry (but more safely next time).

Personally, I don’t care where either of you choose to carry. Strictly your business.

I WOULD like to know WHAT he was carrying that was unintentionally discharged that way. That would be useful information to have.

Some guns should never be pocket carried, holster or not. 1911 type actions and Glock actions are the worst offenders. I can’t count the number of times I have removed a 1911 from a proper holster and found the safety had been knocked off. A Sig 938 cocked and locked pocket carried in a holster is asking for a Darwin award.

More S&W J frames are pocket carried sans holster than in a holster as they aren’t needed. Something like a Kahr CM9 is every bit as safe, and will not go off like a glock or SAO action will.

Research is good for EVERYONE to do.
