If millennials are jerks, blame the baby boomers

Many problems with kids can be traced to their parents. So why have millennials been singled out as a uniquely depraved generation? Weren’t they raised by somebody?

For those who may have missed the latest skirmish in America’s generational warfare, a new survey by marketing firm DDB finds millennials — those between 19 and 34 years old, more or less — may be more venal and self-aggrandizing than older folks. They’re more likely to consider themselves workaholics — even with a work ethic their elders find lacking — and a scandalous 27% of millennials say they’d take credit for a colleague’s work if it helped them get ahead. Just 15% of Generation Xers and 5% of baby boomers say they’d do that.

The boomers are not locusts, they paid into a system the politicians pillaged. We cannot blame them for that. There are lots and lots of boomers because we have been aborting a rather large segment of the population that would otherwise help pay what is owed (yes, I get there would be a lot of locusts in the aborted, but still).
Our government is what screwed everything up and soon we will all pay the price.

I’m a Gen-Xer with millennial kids - so I see many kids of this generation.

They impress me a few ways. They are very gentle kids. Very open and accepting, and kind to others. In that regard, they are better than kids I grew up with. The brainwashing on bullying, etc... has worked. Of course, they are good with technology.

The flip side of that - they are less independent. Not many work - or are expected to work. They expect things to be provided, and have less initiative. They aren’t reactionaries, but many are natural nanny-state citizens. In that regard, the brainwashing has also worked.

Yes the boomers did not pay attention as the public school system was turned into a Socialist donut factory. The millenials are not at fault as they were groomed from 1st grade to be good little statists. Now we are PO’d because that’s the way they act and vote.

If I could go back and do it over again as the trustee of my poor sister’s estate I would never have agreed to send my 2 nieces to the expensive out of state colleges and waste $200,000 so they can vote Democrat for the rest of their lives and post their outrage over the minimum wage on Facebook. They would have gone to Podunk U in the state where they lived.

I’m a boomer and my progeny is Generation X. Why should I get blamed for the millennials when I have my own sins?

I know where you’re coming from.

I’m a ‘Gen Xer’ as well, and I feel like I’m being screwed every which way. The ‘Boomers’ get me from the front, and the ‘Millennials’ are hitting me from behind.

Neither of them even have the decency to buy us a dammed drink first either......

Not taking a shot at you, just a pictorial observation of Gen-X parents:

My wife falls into that category, too. Sometimes, I just have to speak out to have her ease up on our youngest son, now 12. I'm one of the oldest dads out there at 60, but I can still hold my own. Here's a picture from our vacation last year, it was a "guys-only" road trip. My son loves his mother dearly, but he remarked that he enjoyed being away from her for a couple of weeks...lol.

Drop me a PM when you're in North Texas. I'll be happy to take you to my newest, favorite hangout: Lost Oak Winery in Burleson, TX.

Not that I need an excuse for my next trip there...lol.

Well, as a Boomer, I admit that many in my generation dropped the ball in the childrearing department. But, once a person has reached adulthood, it’s time to start blaming mommy and daddy for one’s bad behavior.

There is a very interesting and illuminating book re success and failure of Americans and why.

The Triple Package:

Chua, Amy; Rubenfeld, Jed (2014-02-04). The Triple Package: How Three Unlikely Traits Explain the Rise and Fall of Cultural Groups in America.

Across the board of the three traits, low Impulse Control, may be the worse trait to have. That trait might come from certain age groups due to the environment and how the child ages/not necessarily grows up.

Hell, the republic probably won’t last another 20 months, let alone years.

I agree with you there. When we are living in Stone Age conditions, though, this lady will hang with the Boomer men because they will know how to fix things and how to catch food, while most of you youngsters will not.

While it may be cathartic to paint with a broad brush, the results do not edify.

I couldn't agree more. They are, occasionally, sort of fun if you don't take them too seriously.

Now you'll have to excuse me. I'm working on my retirement plan. The X'ers and the Millennials aren't paying quite enough taxes to support my yacht docking fees in the Barbados. I'm thinking of turning Democrat. ;-)
