Who on Earth wants to train their dogs to be violent anyways? I personally wouldn’t out of concern that my own dog would come back to bite my butt.

Prosecutors argued that Jackson was not just negligent but also knew that his animals could endanger someone's life. They presented evidence that the dogs were involved in at least seven other altercations in the 18 months before the fatal attack. In trial testimony, several horseback riders said they had been chased or bitten by Alex Jackson's dogs. "I feel terrible about it. This isn't anything that I orchestrated or planned, that I wanted to have happen," he said. Animal control officers testified that an inebriated Jackson told them shortly after the attack: "If you mess with me, you're coming into the lions' den."

I would want to sit in on the trial before I am ready to reduce the charge.

I would think manslaughter.

For murder 2 you would have to have ‘sent’ the dogs after the victim, not just letting them roam.

This guy is an ass who deserves some ‘time away’ from civilized people.

But murder?

Its a culture thing where they like to have mean dogs who instill fear in other people.

"They presented evidence that the dogs were involved in at least seven other altercations in the 18 months before the fatal attack."

And yet, none of these dogs were ever shot by police.

It seems he had those dogs for a reason other than them being pets.

excerpt:

"Jackson was also found guilty of three drug charges. Police said that when they first went to his property to investigate the mauling, they found a marijuana farm."

If you keep firing a rifle towards town, you will eventually probably kill someone. Isn't that murder? He kept letting his dogs go after people.

An owner is responsible for any and all damage caused by his pets. He let them terrorize other people without interference ...which resulted in a person’s death. He deserves to be punished. Probably deserves more time in prison.

Yep, murder. This wasn’t a one time incident, but the result of an attack after a long series of attacks and threats.

He deserves the death penalty.
