So a few weeks ago, my Wonderful Wife got a bug in her bonnet to see Niagara Falls. She asked me if I wanted to go, but I declined as I have already seen it.

In 1958, as a six year old. I remember we pulled up and parked on a late summer afternoon, piled out of the car, went ohh and ahh at the spectacle of a lot of water going off the cliff, and 20 minutes later, got back into the car. In my mind, it was a total bust after the first five minutes. I was fascinated by the never ending spray from the falls that was like rain on a sunny afternoon. Cool for a 6 year old.

Back to my wife. She and her friend booked flights for a 4 day trip to the falls. Do any local, or knowledgeable Freepers have any recommendations for fun and happy activities in the area? These are two ladies in their late forties. Thanks!

See the Falls on the Canadian side. The U.S. side sucks.

Went to the Falls twice, it's amazing.

” These are two ladies in their late forties.”

As a woman in her early 80s I have a feeling that these gals will have absolutely no trouble finding something to do.

:-)

They should bring along a couple of hefty barrels.

Buy a barrel or a kayak and run the falls. Very exciting!

Best white water barrel or kayak experience in North America.

And think of the stories you will have to tell.

make SURE you stay on the Canadian side. It’s clean, beautiful and safe.
Not so much on the USA side..

Watch the movie “Niagara”, starring Marilyn Monroe, to get some ideas.

Not too far away is Niagra-on-the-Lake, which is a pretty locale. You can get good deals on Ice Wine there, and there is an old 18th century fort close by.

Driving the Scenic Parkway from the Falls to Niagara-on-the-Lake is always good. You'll pass the Queenston Memorial, several good wineries and Fort George. There's also the Shaw Festival Theatre which always has good shows.

To all- please ping me to Canadian topics.

Canada Ping!

Head up the road for an hour or two and visit the HMCS Haida (WWII Destroyer)?

That’s what I’d do, anyway.

Said Oscar Wilde of Niagara Falls - “ The sight of that waterfall must be one of the earliest and keenest disappointments in American married life.”

If you’re driving, the Peace Bridge in Buffalo usually has the shortest wait times. Rainbow Bridge is usually the worst.
