Worcester and Boston Mass rank at the bottom with DC and other Metro DC areas at the bottom. The worst drivers tend to be in the mega cities.

Two worst in my opinion are Nashville and Columbus, Ohio.

Nashville, a 14-car pileup absolutely everyplace you go.

Columbus, too many wignuts doing eight-lane cuts on I-270 during rush hour.

Rhode Island drivers are even worse than Boston! Miami- there’s another one, brought their driving habits from S America.

having had the displeasure of living up in MA this does not surprise me at all.

Most drivers there are impatient , rude and certainly can’t drive.
They use the breakdown lane to take over other drivers, even when an exit is coming up,.
They cannot for the life of them use their roundabouts, and have no clue who is supposed to yield .
They pull into the middle of an intersection waiting to take their left turn because they fear they might get stopped at the red light, or even worse they see the green light and take their left turn trying to beat the oncoming traffic which also has a green at the same time.
When they merge into the highway they just pull right in front of drivers who are already on the highway.

Last but not least if you are at a redlight then you half a second to press the gas once it turns green because otherwise the people behind you are already honking their horns

I have driven a lot this year.

Completely agree that Boston/Worchester/Springfield MA drivers are the worst of the worst. Every car in Boston has a dent. Who cuts me off while driving in CT? 90% of the time it is a car with MA plates. Not sure why they’re so bad, but I’ve always thought that if you’re too stupid to put a Kennedy in the Senate for a few decades, then perhaps you’re too dimwitted to operate a vehicle.

Also agree that Texas drivers are pretty good. I attribute this to heavy law enforcement.

Disagree the Jacksonville drivers are some of the best. I guess tourists, uninsured and illegal drivers don’t enter into the calculation.

Disagree that Pittsburgh drivers are among the worst. The roads in Pittsburgh are difficult to manuver around...probably contributes to bad insurance stats. Outside of congestion, I found Pittsburgh drivers to be quite polite and obedient of traffic laws

I live in MA- About 2 months ago I was at a red light—it turned green, but there was a fire engine coming. The guy behind me went NUTS,pulled around me and almost caused the fire engine to lose control and just missed a collision.

In the 80s I drove in Boston for one week. If I never drive in Boston again, it will be too soon!!!

A great place to visit but never to drive.

Sorry Boston Freepers. (if there are any)

I was a truck driver up there, and I would hear out of state truckers going nuts about how the drivers up there would drive over the CB.

My MIL is another who would do as you have mentioned. When she came to visit here she told my wife she should pull into the intersection in case it goes red. My wife told her that people do not do that here and she could not understand.
Next day she asked if she could drive and the answer was no.

Ever had the middle finger given to you because you were going at the speed limit, or the best ne is when you signal, yes I know a strange concept for some up there , but anyway you signal and as soon as you do the driver behind you speeds up to not let you over?

I still for the life of me can’t understand why some do that. You see me with the signal on , and now you speed up to not let me over, bizarre

Worst US drivers, IMO, are in northern NM.

Told the misses that I will not drive there again, and the only way will be for me to take a plane.

Like you said, great place to visit but never to drive there .

If you are making the signal so close to them that they have TIME to do this, you're not ready to make your move.

Remember, the left lane is for passing ONLY. No matter how fast you're going in it, if someone is behind you, you're breaking the law (even if you're going the speed limit). Pass, get over, period.

One of the worst things here in the Boston area is we are allowed to travel in the breakdown lane (during rush hours)on a section of Rt 95.

It is almost impossible to pull over as you approach your exit because the cars travel at great speed——in the breakdown lane.

I avoid it now that I’m retired.

Here's a clue: they aren't US drivers. They just happen to be in the US.

Northern NM has some strange social pathologies involving real estate, too. Many families have been there for 400+ years, and they think differently about things.

“and have no clue who is supposed to yield . They pull into the middle of an intersection waiting to take their left turn because they fear they might get stopped at the red light, “

You have no idea what the word yield means. In the US, vehicles waiting to enter an intersection must yield to any vehicle that has already legally entered the intersection. Green doesn’t mean go. It means proceed when the intersection is clear, otherwise yield to the driver legally occupying the intersection. You can’t fault drivers for a light change when they have already entered an intersection under green. The only exception is when the left turn lanes are controlled by an independent signal. If people actually drove the way you suggest, they would never be able to make a left turn in heavy traffic.

When I was living in Texas that maneuver was referred to as a “Houston Shuffle”. I would agree that Columbus drivers may be the worst in Ohio, but if you ever have the chance (or misfortune) of driving in Boston you will see the real champs. They’re called “Massholes” for a reason.
