A 30 cal water cooled plus a box of linked ammunition had to weigh a hell of a lot and it wasn’t connected to any water for cooling. One box wouldn’t overheat it would it?

Good thing they didn’t let a 9 year old girl fire that thing.

I fired an M1917 with cloth belts. It was water jacketed, several inches of water around the barrel. Or, if you will, the barrel went through the middle of a cylindrical tank of water. There was no flow-through, but there was a vent and an overflow.

Water will keep the barrel surface below 212 F even if it’s not flowing.

We were trying to hit dynamite taped to snow fence slats.

Mexico then and now. Nothing’s changed, other than hardware and narcotics.

That sounds like fun.

Most pictures I can remember of the water cooled 30 had it connected to a tank.

So many great moments from this film. I love the long walk leading to the end -- filmed completely impromptu by Peckinpah. Great acting throughout.

Perhaps my favorite moment is when old man Edmond O'Brien is laughing at them for their failed initial robbery. He's a senile, drunken old fool, just laughing at their incompetence. He can't stop.
Then Pike says: "Thornton was there."
And the old man changes completely. He's not senile. He's not drunk. He's not laughing: "Deke Thornton?"

There's more to the old man than meets the eye. He knows what's up -- and, as we see, he's a survivor. That's why he's old.

Yes- the tank is connected to the MG by a hose. As the water in the jacket heats up or even boils, it runs into the overflow tank. When it cools down it can be re-used.

My roof mount works great!

Just pop out the sunroof and presto!

Self defense made easy.

It was a 9 year old boy with a bolt action rifle who fired the last killing shot.

Just can’t trust them kids.

Sam Peckinpah discharged more bullets than the Mexican Revolution making the movie.

The Browning M1917A1 HMG depicted in the movie weighed about 32 lbs without the attached ammo box and fired the 30-06 cartridge. The Browning Automatic Rifle, using the exact same cartridge fired at the cyclic rate of 550 rounds per minute and weighed just under 20 lbs without the bipod. This weapon was entirely manageable by one man firing full auto from the shoulder.

I have fired the much lighter Browning M1919A4 air cooled MMG from the hip at the cyclic rate of 550 rpm with no problems.

That M1917A1’s recoil, handled by 3 fairly large men should have been easily controled. This scene was typical Hollywood exageration for comedic effect.

The Wild Buch is nonetheless one of the great movies of all time.

I love that movie.

What a very touching and heartfelt message from Clint Eastwood.

He made my day!

If you realize each day is a gift, you may be near my age.

My Twilight Years ~ Clint Eastwood

As I enjoy my twilight years, I am often struck by the inevitability that the party must end. There will be a clear, cold morning when there isn’t any “more.” No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat.

It seems to me that one of the important things to do before that morning comes, is to let every one of your family and friends know that you care for them by finding simple ways to let them know your heartfelt beliefs and the guiding principles of your life so they can always say, “He was my friend, and I know where he stood.”

So, just in case I’m gone tomorrow, please know this: I voted against that incompetent, lying, flip-flopping, insincere, double-talking, radical socialist, terrorist excusing, bleeding heart, narcissistic, scientific and economic moron currently in the White House!

Participating in a gun buy-back program because you think that criminals have too many guns is like having yourself castrated because you think your neighbors have too many kids.

Regards,

Clint
