Ebola scare: 116 people arrive [in Delhi, India] from worst-affected Liberia in Delhi and Mumbai

NEW DELHI: The enormity of the Ebola outbreak hit home on Tuesday as 112 Indians and four Nepalese arrived in the country on different flights from Liberia. This West African country has seen over 600 deaths so far and is the worst affected. Till late in the night, 88 people had arrived — 71 in Mumbai and 17 in Delhi. More were on their way on different commercial flights.

Health ministry sources said of the 17 passengers who arrived at the Delhi airport, one person has been found to have fever and sore throat which is associated with Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) besides other diseases. "The passenger suspected for EVD has been quarantined at the Airport Health Organisation (APHO), a specialized health centre run by the health ministry to screen international passengers for deadly diseases. We have sent the passenger's blood sample for test," said a ministry official.

At least six others, including two women and a child, were taken to APHO for detailed health screening and officials later claimed they did not have any symptoms of the disease. In addition, five passengers from routine flights from the affected countries — Sierra Leone, Republic of Guinea and Nigeria — with symptoms of fever have been quarantined at the isolation facility at Delhi airport, said health ministry sources.

Just imagine what an Ebola outbreak in India, as well as Africa, would be like.

Yeah, that is a very frightening thought. I’m pretty sure India is a lot more densely populated than West Africa. Yikes almighty!

And not far away from India, we have China — where they already have cities without any residents. Perhaps they will end up with more of those.

I’ve wondered if other infectious agents are needed in order to make a typical case of Ebola lethal. And if those might be present in India as well as Africa.

At least in China it’s on purpose... these silly Potemkin villages.

It would be horrible, but at least India has a population that can read, doctors and medicines, and no current civil war…so there’s reason to believe they’d stop it from spreading the way it is in Africa.

Not saying that India doesn’t have slums and some weird beliefs about healing….but they have a large educated population. Apparently, the airport workers are an exception. Doesn’t sound like the did enough to check for Ebola.

Went to see the movie, The One Hundred Foot Journey....
In the opening scene it shows a very crowded typical street in India....and I had the thought.....’Hope Ebola doesn’t strike here’

Still hope the authorities are on top of this.

Oh, take it to Mumbai. That’s not one large open sewer. No way the virus could get all loose there.

They should be quarantining anyone who was exposed to someone with symptoms.

Putting them in quarantine AFTER they show the symptoms is about useless.

Ebola is loose all over the world.

Ebola, along with the ongoing Fukashima disaster, may cause ISIS soon to be downgraded to a mere annoyance.
