How RAK, UAQ police saved the day
A 22-year-old Emirati woman was saved by police after her car was stuck in cruise control at 120kmph while she was heading from Sharjah to Ras Al Khaimah.
Police risked their lives when they drove their vehicle in front of Aysha Hassan and told her to bang her car in the rear of their vehicle to slow it down.
The frightened Aysha was reluctant to this but the trick worked and her car stopped. The woman's brakes stopped working near the National Paints Bridge in Sharjah.
She phoned Umm Al Quwain police, who tried to calm her down before sending patrols to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, where she was heading.
One of them phoned me again and told me that he would drive in front of me while another police car was behind me, she said.
The policeman then told me he would slow down so my car will bang into his vehicle. I was scared and tried to dodge his vehicle but I had no choice. I hit the police vehicle and may car came to a standstill.
She said traffic police from Umm Al Quwain, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah joined hands to calm her down through the plight and save her life.
She was screaming. She was in a bad psychological state but we tried our best to calm her down before acting to stop her car, said Major Sultan bin Youkha, acting director of Umm Al Quwain traffic police.
Take it out of gear?
They let women drive?
She’s just practicing for the Costco parking lot.
gear shift to neutral and emergency brake gradually.
I’d switch off the engine
Later, after calming down, she was heard to say “Oh, THAT’s what that pedal is for!”
Just shift to neutral and let the engine run up against the rev limiter.
The steering doesn’t lock on the first detent.
true ... but why take the chance it goes to full off then full steering lock.
Operator error.
reminds me of the women that went for a long drive.. apparently the connection to the battery broke so when she shut off the car it went completely dead.. she had to call 911 to get out because the power locks did not automatically unlock the door for her and the button did not work..
I have yet to see a car that did not have a manual way to unlock the door..
have you?
it’s great if you’re from mars,
but not if you’re from venus
if you wanna drive a car,
you better have a penis
but if you have a vagina,
a vuvla, or a labia
then stay the hell away from
saudi arabia
/family guy
beats running in to something at the speeds she was going no??
turn it off and risk it.. if it locks. turn it back on.
oops, /american dad
Pilots are trained to deal with this situation since the engines are designed to go full throttle if linkages break.
neutral, brakes, key off..... tomorrow she may get stuck on a broken escalator.
I haven’t seen one, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they made them now.
