BENNETT, KEN (REP) 10,806 10.46% DUCEY, DOUG (REP) 41,311 40.00% JONES, CHRISTINE (REP) 19,926 19.30% RIGGS, FRANK (REP) 6,076 5.88% SMITH, SCOTT (REP) 17,865 17.30% THOMAS, ANDREW P. (REP) 6,835 6.62%
Well they have to GOP LT Governor, who pretty IS what’s left of the Republican party and didn’t have any primary opposition, opposed by a Progressive Party candidate that has the support of the rats.
A perfunctory nominee for Governor. A perfunctory nominee for Congress. And no Republicans running for the other 4 statewide offices.
Really was unhappy about the way that one turned out.
Do you think the QB Andrew Walter would have been a better choice than Rogers?
I mispoke when I said Rogers was “re”nominated, she lost the primary last time to Vernon Parker, who chose not to run again. This time he ran for Corporation commissioner (2 seats up) and finished last of 4 candidates. Doug Little and
Tom Forese were nominated.
I heard Wendy Rogers in person say that.
Not happy with the results of that race BUT Kyrsten Sinema must go. If Wendy Rogers puts as much effort into the general as she did in the primary it just might happen.
I don’t know one way or the other. Both candidates had flaws and they were heavily advertised during the very nasty primary. We need this election to be a big wave one.
I would argue plenty of hotly contested races for a "safe" GOP or Dem seat have gotten national attention when they have ugly inter-party primary fights over WHICH member of the party will take the seat. Jesse Jackson's Jr.'s seat is about as safely RAT as it comes (there was close to ZERO chance of a Republican taking the seat), and it certainly received "national attention" when Jr. went to prison and even Michael Bloomberg was spending huge $$$ in the primary to get the RAT he wanted. Other examples are the open seat in TN (where Steve Cohen won), the Jason Chaffetz vs. Chris Cannon primary in Utah (again, close to ZERO chance a RAT would win that seat), and Eric Cantor vs. Dave Brat in Virginia (okay, that one received national attention because it was a sitting House Majority Leader getting his butt kicked)
>> So-called moderates are a lot more dangerous. <<
And the thing is, he's "moderate" the same way Joe Lieberman is seen as "moderate" -- e.g. votes 90% liberal but expresses a "tone" that he's willing to "work" with "reasonable" Republicans and find "bipartisan solutions" to "immigration reform", blah blah blah.
>> I just thought of something, I hope Marinelarena isnt future Senate/Governor material <<
Knowing Ruben, I'm betting he's certainly planning that in the future and sees himself as gubernatorial material down the road. Whether he can actually win a real contested election against a viable Republican opponent is another matter entirely. Again, I won't be pulling a Ben Stein and endorsing my leftist H.S. classmate over a good conservative.
>> Check this out from far left mother jones, mostly about how Wilcox waved the bloody shirt vis-a-vis Trayvon Martin. <<
Wilcox made me physically ill. That's the thing about all of Ruben's campaigns so far. The guy is a guaranteed rubber stamp for the abortion lobby and open borders crowd, but his opponents in the primary are so awful I can't help but root for him.
>> Your classmate says he changed his name to honor his mother, since dad abandoned them (thats plausible but I still think it was likely a political consideration though heaven knows why people wouldnt want to vote for such a cool name) <<
I agree. Probably both are true (had no reason to keep dad's name but running for office gave him the opportunity to change it to a more "ballot friendly" name). If I used my mother's maiden name (Webster), it would work similarly -- its much more ballot friendly than my dad's more ethnic last name and since I'm distantly related to Daniel Webster it would certainly help if I were to run for office.
Interestingly enough, one of his younger sisters still goes by Marinelarena and the other one now goes by Gallego like him. There's also the other hispanic RAT Congressman, Pete Gallego of Texas. I don't think they're related.
On the negative side, one of the first RATs to endorse him when he announced his candidacy for Congress was Raúl Grijalva, who I think is a hardcore marxist. So fieldmarshaldj may be right that Ruben will veer hard left once he hits DC. Hopefully that will kill any chances of him winning a statewide office in AZ.
I’m being asked to. The problem is that I have no reason to run against my Congressman, Paul Gosar, who is doing a very good job.
Gotcha. ;-)
Of course, if Gosar challenges the execrable McQueeg in 2016, there’s your opening. ;-D
He also got endorsements from Mike Lee and Ted Cruz and Scott Walker. I believe he has the potential of being a great Governor and I am excited.
Since Gosar wussed out of running again in his own district after it was made a but more rat, I doubt he’d be so bold as to challenge McCain.
“Rasmussen” has polled the VT gubernatorial race. Rat Shulmin is under 50% and leads by only 12 points, 48%-36%. He beat Randy Brock by 20 points in 2012.
Underwhelming percentage. Shumlin could fall against a decent GOP nominee, he is a mediocrity on par with Chafee and Malloy.
Well, Brock was, on paper at least, a much stronger nominee than Scott Milne is. But he picked a bad year to run.
Milne sounds like an interesting guy. Both of his parents were state legislators. His mom was ousted in 2000 (in the primary I guess) after she voted for gay civil unions. She died just weeks ago.
I wonder if he is a relation to the Mathesons of Utah. Scott Sr & Jr are named Scott Milne Matheson.
W Sox finally trade Dunn, to Oakland, and he says this it, he’s gonna retire after the season. 3rd most Ks in history, 36th in home runs.
Ouch, if the pace holds, only the ‘98 Marlins that traded the whole damn team, will be the worse in terms of defending champs.
Dunn’s been done for a while...
I don’t believe “worst-to first-back to worst” has ever been done before.
Nice job BOS!
but can you figure out why the Sox bats have been so cold all year? Lost Ellsbury. Victorino injured. What else?
Divine punishment because of the Liawatha for President talk?
