We threw her butt out in 2010. She rode in on Obama’s loin cloth in 2012. If voter turnout in November in Arizona is what I think it’s going to be, she’ll be gone again.

Primary recap

In AZ, State Treas. Doug Ducey won the GOP nomination for Governor, former Mesa Mayor Scott Smith came in second, former Cali Congressman Frank Riggs came in last.

Scandal-plagued AG Tom Horne (R) was defeated for renomination by former State Gaming Director Mark Brnovich (yes, 3 consonants in a row to begin his name), probably very good news for holding this office in November.

State Sen. Michele Reagan won the GOP primary for Sec of States over State Rep. Justin Pierce and former Senate candidate Wil Cardon, she faces former AG Terry Goddard in the general election. The current Sec of State, Ken Bennett, came in 4th in the gubernatorial primary.

Businessman Jeff DeWit won the GOP nod for Treasurer. There is no rat running for the office, possibly they can name a candidate later.

The GOP nomination in CD-1 is too close to call, with 83% in, State House Speaker Andy Tobin has a very narrow lead over rancher Gary Kiehne, State Rep. Adam Kwansman is running third but is still less than 300 votes off the lead. Not a hell of lot of primary votes in that district.

In Florida, Charlie Crist wins the rat primary for Governor by 3-1, as expected. Very competitive general election but Governor Scott may pull it out.

In CD 18, Former State Rep. Carl Domino wins the GOP primary wih 38%, quite a relief as he was the only viable choice, former disgraced Connecticut Senate nominee Alan Schlesinger was the runner up, seriously, with 24%. Domino faces rat freshman Patrick Murphy who “beat” Allen West in 2012.

In CD 26, RINO Carlos Curbelo won easily over several other candidates, who were for the most part, RINOs and/or losers themselves. Former Rep. David Rivera got just 7.5% of the vote. Curbelo faces rat freshman Joe Garcia, who beat Rivera 2 years ago.

CD 9, (Alan Grayson) isn’t expected to be competitive this year, but area Republicans once again nominated a non-Hispanic by a wide margin. Their nomination of some random rich guy last time over former State Rep. John “Q” Quinones, ensured that Grayson would return to Congress in the strongly rat-leaning seat.

In Vermont, votes were cast, but none of them mattered.

In the Oklahoma runoff, former State Sen. Steve Russell, who surprisingly edged presumed frontrunner Patrice Douglas for first place in the initial primary, beat her by 18 points.

1 primary day to go, 2 weeks from now, NH, RI, MA, DE.

Also, in AZ-09, Wendy Rogers beat the quarterback, will face bisexual ultraliberal freshman Congresswoman Synema in a very competitive general.

One major campaign that I'm surprised to see has received close to ZERO national coverage (I also haven't seen a single thread about it on FR) is race for Ed Pastor's open congressional seat in AZ.

I've been following it almost daily because a former H.S. classmate of mine is active in AZ politics and running for the seat. He's already served as state rep. for a few years and is moving up the political ladder pretty quickly. The guy is a hard-left Dem (wow! an ACTUAL example of a "liberal yankee transplant"), but he's in a safe Dem area and the rest of RAT candidates for both his state rep. seat and in the Congressional primary appear to be to his left.

The candidate is Ruben Gallego (in H.S., we knew him as Ruben Marinelarena and apparently this became an issue in the RAT primary since he changed his name to his mother's maiden name when he embarked on a political career). I probably disagree with him on at least 75-80% of the issues. He's a typical Obamabot on numerous issues like abortion, gay marriage, amnesty for illegals, etc. There are a few places where we have common ground, he's been excellent for veterans (the guy is an Iraq War vet and former marine), he worked with Brewer (before she turned RINO) on some budget and education issues, he opposes the "popular vote compact" and cast a few decent pro-gun votes and had a 75% rating from the NRA (not that I trust the NRA ratings overall)

He told me over the phone that "I'm probably the best option for Republicans when you look at the rest of the Democrat field", and I'm inclined to actually agree with him on that one because the other Dems were some deranged anti-war activist, militant 'gay rights' organizer, etc. He might be a bit like the RAT equivalent of Kirk Dillard in that he's worked his way up the party hierarchy and tells fellow Dems he's a "true progressive" and tells Republicans he's "moderate".

I thought about donating to him in the primary to help him beat a more liberal Dem (though it would probably look bad on my end since I'm broke and haven't donated to any Republicans this cycle!). In any case, he won the RAT nomination last night and I just checked politics1.com to see who are his opponents in the general election. It looks like there's not even a Republican on the ballot in November, so he's probably a shoo-in to replace Pastor. When he ran for State Rep, he did have token "Republican" opposition, but it was some deranged Ron Paul nut who ran on "9/11 was an inside job and the zionist bankers control America" stuff. Given that both districts were safe RAT and there was not an actual conservative alternative, there was no conflict for me, and I certainly wouldn't have pulled a Ben Stein and supported Ruben over a decent conservative candidate if there was.

Any AZ freepers from the Phoenix area I should ping on this?

John Huppenthal is the craziest politician I have ever met. And I have met a lot. I have never seen someone so blatantly lie ... say anything .... to get elected. I am so happy he lost. I know Diane Douglas. She’s the real deal. The Democrat looks like a typical Dem.. Money will solve everything. I think things will go Republican in November so I’m happy.

Here is what I don’t understand. In the 1st district, the Democrat turn out was very high. Higher than the Repubs and the Republicans had lots of contested races state wide where the Dems didn’t.

The turn out margin for the Dems in District 1 was higher than it was when Kirkpatrick won in 2012 by 3.7%. What is going on there — is this going to make that seat even more Democrat locked?

Well, why would that receive attention? It's a safe rat seat. If your classmate is the least liberal rat I'm glad he won over the only other serious rat in the race, Mary Rose Wilcox (married name, she's Hispanic, if she had used her maiden name she may have won), but I don't think it will make that much of a difference.

Marinelarena is a really cool name, Basque. He shouldn't have changed it, I think that he did is a sign of low character ;p.

I don't know many AZ Freepers other than Arizona Carolyn, gone since 2011. Mosaicwolf and ConservativeMan55 are the keepers of the AZ state ping list, according to the most recent information I can find.

Update on AZ 1, with 99% in, Tobin is up by less than 500 votes over Kiehne, looks to be the winner, Kwansman is out of it. A lot of people will complain but I don't think any of these men are unacceptable. Kwansman was hurt by a lack of resources. I hope his career continues.

Ah yes Auh2, I forgot the race in AZ-9, I think renominating Wendy Rogers was a good decision. We have a good chance at gaining 3 seats in AZ. Last time the rats stole CD 2 and only won CD 1 and CD 9 because of the liartarians (thanks to legislation by Kwansman there don't appear to be liartarians on the ballot in either district this time, just a write-in in CD 9). This time, Martha McSally is considered better than even money to capture CD 2. She's outraised the incumbent last I heard. Rogers and Tobin though could use some cash. These late primaries aren't good. McSally had only token primary opposition.

PPP (D) poll on the gubernatorial race shows it tied 35%-35% with a meaty 12% for the liartarian. I have some trouble believing this. Ducey should win.

I just thought of something, I hope Marinelarena isn’t future Senate/Governor material (the old bat Wilcox certainly is not), if he is, then his victory is a bad thing. A young, electable Hispanic rat on the rat bench in Arizona would be an unfavorable development.

District 1 was redistricted to a more Democrat District. So much, that the Congressman, Paul Gosar moved to my district, District 4, because it is a safe Republican district.

A lot of voters stay away from the primary. I expect more to show up for the general. But it is going to be close. Andy Tobin is a friend of mine. I won’t say he was the most conservative person in that race, but in that District, he will be a formidable opponent to Kirkpatrick. But as of now, I don’t think that race has been called for him. It is so close.

I’m betting whatever few reasonable views he might’ve had in Phoenix will go out the window in DC. If we can’t elect a Conservative in these seats, better for the most moonbat individual to win (that way they at least serve a purpose as a lightning rod to rally against them). So-called “moderates” are a lot more dangerous.

Check this out from far left mother jones, mostly about how Wilcox waved the bloody shirt vis-a-vis Trayvon Martin.

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2014/08/wilcox-gallego-trayvon-martin-arizona

Your classmate says he changed his name to honor his mother, since dad abandoned them (that’s plausible but I still think it was likely a political consideration though heaven knows why people wouldn’t want to vote for such a cool name)

Wilcox had an ally SUE to try and force him to use “Marinelarena” based on the false allegation that he kept going back and forth between names (he has not).

Wilcox sounds like a real rhymes with “trot”.

Congresswoman Synema is soft-peddling her ideology big-time. She’s also raised a ton of money. Meanwhile, Wendy Rogers got banged up in a nasty primary and ‘Rats found a video clip of her suggesting that Social Security should be done away with. It doesn’t look good.
