“Don’t know what Fleischer Popeyes are, but real old Popeyes where Popeye and Bluto mumbled half their lines were the best cartoons ever.”

Those are them.

Fleischer Brothers Studios made a lot of cartoons including Betty Boop and Popeyes.

MIGHTY MOUSE!

Where else did children get cartoons with OPERA?

Interesting how many of the older cartoon mentioned were takeoffs on serious cultural entities. We had culture back then, not the trash we have now!

I have never watched more than a few seconds of the Bullmoose cartoons. I always thought they were terrible; apparently I am not intellectual enough to appreciate the literary play on words they contain.

OTOH, I am enough of an intellectual to appreciate the exquisite humor and hysterical story lines of the Road Runner cartoons, not to mention their most excellent video and sound effects.

LOL!

You will note that I did not even spell the hero’s name correctly!

Bullmoose? Bullwinkle? Whatever.

Most kids, today, would not even be able to comprehend the *hidden* humor in the old cartoons. The innuendos fly right over their heads.

Having been a kid growing up in the 60’s I love the old classic Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, Looney Tunes, Peabody & Sherman, Fractured Fairy Tales, Bullwinkle, Under Dog, Dudley Do Right cartoons – still do, they are still great cartoons. I also admit to liking Ren and Stimpy and Sponge Bob Squarepants and Futurama and South Park as an adult.

But I also really love some of the Pixar Studio’s animated shorts.

Many of them were released as bonus features on the DVD releases of movies like Toy Story. My little nieces loved them (and there is nothing in them that the little ones couldn’t watch and enjoy), but so did us adults as some of the humor went over the little kid’s heads and some reminded us of the classic Warner Brother cartoon shorts of our childhood.

What I really like about them is how they tell a story in a very short amount of time (4-5 minutes) and without any spoken dialogue. Some of them are silly and funny and some are rather sweet and poignant.

PRESTO Disney and Pixar Short Film

Disney Pixar ~ For the Birds

One Man Band Disney Pixar short film

The Short Film Knick Knack Pixar

Geri's game

Not from Pixar but from Disney Studio's.

Space Battleship Yamato (Uchyuu Senkyan Yamato). You can find it on some anime channels. I recommend it.
