Don’t complain when a planned communist riot results in an “innocent (useful idiot) bystander” like you gets his skull cracked like happened to stupid college kids in Chicago ‘68.

According to the Bible (Romans 13) he is the one God recommends you to hear and obey. He's the one bearing the sword. If you want him to respect you as a law-abiding citizen, you'd better respect him and his office.

And yet the Bible requires everyone, including rulers to obey the same laws or suffer the consequences.

Can you quote any scriptures where God, his prophets, or his Son, or his Apostles ever state that you must obey illegal or immoral actions by rulers?

Like I posted up-thread.

This is a two-way street, especially in America.

You’re not going to win a legal argument with the cops in the field. Save it for the courtroom.

That's good advice. Just make sure you get the evidence you need while you can. Sometimes respectfully asking a couple of questions can be very helpful.

But if you believe (or know) that the cop stopping you is violating your rights or is acting like a bully, I guarantee that the situation will not become easier if you show your anger and resentment.

So, the trained professional, who is there to serve and protect, tells YOU THE CITIZEN to keep you emotions in check.

That is just rich.

“You say “I do not consent to a search”. Why does that require you to insult or threaten the cop?”

Because he tells you “I’m gonna search your car”.

You say “NO”. Now you are not doing what he is telling you.

Get it????

You say "I do not consent to a search". Why does that require you to insult or threaten the cop?

In theory it doesn't. But in real life before you even get to utter "I do not" you may well have been physically assaulted, and had every obscene thing the officer can think of that would make you angry shouted at you by the officer. So you really need to be able to stay calm in circumstances most people can't stay calm in.

In the extreme case I am familiar with, you have to be able to watch some cop beat up your girlfriend in front of you while he taunts you. Most guys aren't able to, at a minimum, resist calling the officer names in such a circumstance. What would you do if some guy was roughing up your wife or girlfriend?

Needless to say the right tactic is to not take the bait, and if at all possible record the interaction from the beginning.

how can you refuse a vehicle search if he says if you argue with him’you could get batoned, sprayed, tasered’orshot?

what makes you believe he’d accept your refusal? or would he regard declining as “probable cause” - which it isn’t - and rip’your car apart with a k-9 unit.

In reality you can’t really refuse the search. Cops have the power, they get to do what they want.

What you do is tell the cop that you do not consent to the search. Do it civillily and respectfully, calmly cite your Constitutional right from unreasonable search and seizure, ask him what his probable cause is, ask him to first get a warrant.

But don’t physically interfere with the search. Just make sure your Ts are dotted and Is crossed for the complaint and lawsuit you’ll file after the search is conducted.

I tell you some people here are just plain nuts! Why isn’t obeying a police officer fine in almost all cases? They are simply doing their jobs. And the jobs we expect them to do, safely and securely.
How would any of you haters out there like to do that job knowing any stop you make could easily end your life these days!
He was advocating camera use too. That was all bases are covered. Stop hating and being like these idiot protestors in Ferguson!

Actually, the article is selective in its editing. Further down:

And you don’t have to submit to an illegal stop or search. You can refuse consent to search your car or home if there’s no warrant (though a pat-down is still allowed if there is cause for suspicion). Always ask the officer whether you are under detention or are free to leave. Unless the officer has a legal basis to stop and search you, he or she must let you go. Finally, cops are legally prohibited from using excessive force: The moment a suspect submits and stops resisting, the officers must cease use of force.

“I think you should do the opposite of what you are told by this guy”

You disagree with the following advice given by Dutta? That’s right. You never bothered to read what he really said.

“Because he tells you “I’m gonna search your car”.”

Well then he’s not really asking is he? You can still say “I don’t give consent to a search”, but you’re not going to stop him. Give him grief and he’ll just lie and say you did give permission.

However my own real life experience of dozens of interactions with cops from traffic stops to being arrested (I forgot a court date for a traffic ticket), I’ve only encountered one cop who was a a-hole. He followed me for about 2 miles of city traffic looking to pull me over, then ticketed me for making an “illegal turn” that was legal. One good thing that came from that was a traffic school class taught by an ex CHP. The class was basically how to avoid getting a ticket. One thing he stressed was not to argue with the cop on the scene, take your ticket and go to court. First, the cop may not show up, and you win. He probably won’t remember you, and won’t have notes if he does. If you argue, he will remember you, make copious notes, and possibly lie about it. In short he will be out to get you. That’s common sense in the real world.

I don’t hate cops. Most cops I know are great. But some cops shouldn’t be cops when they have obvious personality issues that make them thugs.
