Obama struggles to find his role after Brown death
AP ^ | 8-19-2014 | JOSH LEDERMAN

As Obama sought to strike the appropriate tone Monday, he appeared to be trapped between the need, as president and commander in chief, to stand up for the government's right to ensure law and order, and the inclination, as an African-American, to empathize with those whose say the killing of an unarmed black man just goes to show how blacks are treated differently by police.

"In too many communities around the country, a gulf of mistrust exists between local residents and law enforcement. In too many communities, too many young men of color are left behind and seen only as objects of fear," Obama said at the White House, in his most expansive comments to date about the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown just outside St. Louis. But while Obama lamented the disproportional apprehension of young black men, he pointedly argued that's not solely the fault of overzealous cops. Police officers must be honored and respected for the difficult job they perform, Obama said.

"There are young black men that commit crime," the president said. "We can argue about why that happens — because of the poverty they were born into and the lack of opportunity or school systems that fail them or what have you — but if they commit a crime, then they need to be prosecuted, because every community has an interest in public safety."

Once all of our politicians are done with their Summer vacations, the situation that Holder and Obama inflamed in Ferguson will only get worse as they all start talking again.

In too many communities, too many young men of color are left behind....

By their PARENTS!!! Thus grwoing up with no supervison or accountability and too many drop out of school and become irresponsible citizens with no jobs. Obama should direct his statements to all the parents in these communities for failing their children.

Exactly - “how best can I exploit this incident to agitate societal upheaval?”

I think of two things reading this - “Mein Kampf” and Michelle & Sean Hannity’s imitation of her saying “struggle.”

More specifically by their “moms”, who didn’t insist that the father of their child be marriageable and married before having sex with him.

I thought Barry was supposed to be “the Mother of all Community Organizers”. Why the hell can’t he get this lynch mob under control and tell them to behave themselves and act like grownups? Sending Eric the Holder there isn’t going to help one bit. He needs to go there the same way he went to the Mexican border to see the invasion of the “unaccompanied minors”. Oh wait, he didn’t go to the Mexican border either.

Good point.
The Party put a guy in office that has experience in community agitating, but nothing else. So this situation has his name all over it. He is totally qualified to organize this community. Problem is that he is late to the party. The parade has passed him by, so now he has to play catch up to get in front of the parade.

Eric holder will go down there a commiserate with the black panthers. Baraq will inject himself as the great healer.

Problem with all that is the folks on the street have lost faith in the first black president. baraq will appear weak and lost again.

And as always, our enemies are watching how baraq handles this. Guess what their perception is on this.

Illegal immigration, Benghazi, Israel, ISIS, IRS, Fast and Furious, Iraq. Pick one. Ferguson is a local matter. Despite all the race pimps flocking there.

Last night Bill O’reilly gave some interesting stats that really puts things in perspective. Last year there were around 400 police shootings of suspects out of 12,000,000 arrests nationwide (or 0.003%). Out of those the majority of suspects were White 47%, 2nd Hispanic 27%, 3rd Black 23% and Other 3%. Although as a percentage of the population, Blacks made up the higher percentage of arrests than whites or hispanics, they actually had a much LESS chance of being shot during an arrest. As for Ferguson, this is the first recorded incident of a suspect being killed by police...EVER. So much for the narrative of black kids being gunned down in the streets of Ferguson on a routine basis...

What Role!?!

This is a local case, at the very least a state issue now.

Why the Hell is he getting involved?

I was only 4 when the Rodney King Riots Happened, did George Bush get involved in THAT Case?

Seriously, is this what the Beer Summit was? (I was in A.F. Basic Training then)

Why is the President of the United States need a role in an altercation between an Officer and a Suspect that resulted in the suspects demise?

Obama can’t find his role? Maybe because it wasn’t covered in the affirmative action or on-the-job training manuals.

He’s been President for close to six years and he’s finally being forced to confront real problems. Whoda thunkit?
