My vote for is Iceland. I’d check out the thermal spas and enjoy it all watching the Northern Lights. My brother recently came back from 2 weeks in Iceland and totally raved. Wonderful food, wonderful people, fabulous place to indulge oneself. And very, very different. I was so interested in temperature there, I started to track it and I frequently found during the dead of winter, Iceland was much warmer than most of the US. It should be very pleasant for Thanksgiving (which the Icelanders don’t celebrate) ...

That is funny, on my FB page I am from Iceland. I guess it might be time to visit. I need to look into that.

Does your brother have any recommendations?

There are some interesting ideas here….some very different. I sensed that you needed something light - maybe that’s me reading between the lines.

I have tremendous respect for the “volunteer” suggestions and The Vatican, etc - I just sensed that not’s what you need this Thanksgiving. Either way, you have some interesting advice.

Donate a few turkeys and volunteer to help serve dinner at your local homeless shelter.

Best Thanksgiving you’ll ever have.

My family stays at this little gem every summer - it would not be suitable for swimming at Thanksgiving but walks on the beach and all the beauty of nearby Charleston would be fun for you to explore! We love it!

Not sure where you are in the northeast, but if you haven't been to Sturbridge, Massachusetts, you might want to check out Old Sturbridge Village, and have your turkey dinner at the Publick House in their Historic Tap Room, which is nearby. I've been to both Sturbridge Village and the Inn many times. The Inn serves turkey dinner every day, and it's real turkey, not processed crap. You can even stay there if you want.

I've been wanting to get to Plimoth Plantation for a few years now, but haven't yet made the trip. They're open through Novemer 30th, and both Sturbridge Village and Plimoth Plantation host Thanksgiving dinners, along with the fare at the Publick House. Here's the link to the Village:

You aren’t going to be able to dodge God, so you might as well go somewhere that you can see as much of God’s beauty as possible.

Bump. Let God guide you.

One of my best Thanksgivings was chaperoning a group of well-off high school students as they worked the serving line in a soup kitchen in a poor part of town. Very much an eye opening experience for them.

Do you like to hike? Consider Sedona, AZ. Gorgeous place and you can day trip or overnight up to the Grand Canyon.

Friend of mine used to go down to the maternity ward at a local charity hospital, and rock babies.

yep, Asheville is for the summer and the leaf season in the fall….other than that, it’s cold and very bohemian liberal…..I would not recommend for Thanksgiving unless you really had your heart set on the Christmas decorations at Biltmore.

I don’t have a friend available to do this with, sadly. So I am looking for an idea where I wont stand out too badly.

Go volunteer to work in a shelter or a kitchen for the homeless. (Or equal.)

Your adventure might just turn out to be one of the more memorable and warm experiences of your life.
