Chief: Darren Wilson Did Not Know Michael Brown Was Suspect In 'Strong-Armed' Robbery

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson said Friday the initial contact between 18-year-old Michael Brown and police officer Darren Wilson was not related to a convenience store robbery.

Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot and killed by Wilson on Saturday, August 9.

In a press conference earlier on Friday, Ferguson police released a report naming Brown as the main suspect in a convenience store robbery where a box of Swisher Sweets cigars valued at $48.99 was stolen and a clerk was allegedly shoved.

Video of the incident allegedly showing Brown, which was released to the public, "had nothing to do with the stop" and was "unrelated" to Wilson's contact with Brown, Jackson said. He said video of the convenience store incident was released in response to Freedom of Information Act requests.

"The initial contact between Darren Wilson and Mike Brown was not related to the alleged theft of cigars," Jackson said, indicating Wilson did not know Brown was a suspect in the robbery.

[the officer] Did Not Know Michael Brown Was Suspect In 'Strong-Armed' Robbery

Well, Mr. Brown most certainly did know he had committed the strong-arm robbery and felony assault.

The primary pro-Brown witness to the events surrounding the shooting was his accomplice in the robbery, therefore his account of the events are useless, impeachable, or just plain unbelievable.

The officer is lucky to be alive. The whole civilized world is lucky that Mr. Brown is dead right there.

I would have suspected that the description of the robbers would have gone out over the broadcast.

That would have been racist. "Two suspects matching the descriptions of 0 bummer's sons robbed a store on such and such a street".

Brown knew, that’s why he resisted arrest.

So it would change in Browns mind from:
“Im getting stopped for no reason” (im innocent of anything) to “Im getting stopped for a reason” (im guilty of a crime of physical assault in the last hour)

So are to more likely to physically assault a cop if your both guilty of a crime and you had already physical assaulted someone else in the last hour

small point gleaned from the report=officer was unable to view disc of the incident at the station..-most dvr’s have a proprietary codec that needs to be on the disc or the viewing machine-the pd likely would have to get the name of manufacturer of the store’s dvr and then obtain and install the codec in order to view it-somewhat time consuming.

Well, if this commenter is correct, the officer DID know that the suspect fit the description of a robbery suspect.

445 I'm looking at the police report on a robbery of cigars and an assault in a store on W. Florissant Ave, Ferguson, last Sa.. The clerk id'd the suspect who also assaulted him as a black male wearing a white t-shirt, khaki longer shorts, yellow socks and a red cardinal's baseball cap. He also said a second suspect was with the first, but didn't give any particulars. He said they left the store and headed up W. Florissant north toward Quiktrip. The robbery took place between 11:52:58 and 11:54:00, per the video, and a description of the suspect was put out over the radio around 11:57.

This shows that when the patrol cop accosted Brown and Johnson on a street not too far from W. Ferguson a mere three minutes later, he wasn't harassing them for "walking while black" --- Brown fit the description of the aggressive thief, down to his socks. That still doesn't say anything about what happened after that, but at least initially, the cop was just doing his job.
