What does America have for breakfast?
BBC News ^ | 15th August 2014 | Debbie Siegelbaum

'Imagine an American breakfast and what comes to mind? Ham and eggs, with hash browns? Pancakes with maple syrup and bacon? The reality tends to be simpler. Cereal and fruit juice have been breakfast staples for generations - though that now seems to be changing.'

I actually eat a ‘fry up’ rarely, I eat cereal usually.

But I love, as most people do here, a full English/Scottish/Ulster/Welsh breakfast.

Egg, sausages, bacon, fried bread, baked beans, tomatoes, black pudding, white pudding, oatmeal, fruit pudding, mushrooms, maybe a tattie scone. All washed down by a big mug of tea. With some toast with butter and jam on the side.

Delicious.

And its healthy, as the full breakfast slowly gives off energy needed throughout the day, hence the old saying: ‘Breakfast like a king, dinner like a pauper’.

Great for a day of fixing the rails or sweeping chimneys...not so great for sitting in a cubicle.

Blood pudding is lovely. And most of it is oatmeal anyway.

British people call it black pudding btw. Not blood pudding.

LOL, the great British breakfast for many is still ‘a cup of tea and a fag*’.

One thing experts do appear to agree on is the difficulty in determining just what, exactly, Americans do eat for breakfast on any given day. The reason? Most people, when surveyed, tend to lie about it to avoid negative judgement.

They know this how?

Like the "statistic" that the vast majority of rapes go unreported, it's difficult to see anyway they could possibly reach such a conclusion based on evidence. So I suspect the "conclusions" are merely assumptions.

Good, that makes me feel better but I still wonder though why it seems so many Brits would rather live and work anywhere else in the world but their “fair isle”. I know about the tax angle but still if it is such a happy place why would they ever want to leave?

And then there is the upcoming Scotland separation vote? If being Brit is so great what’s that all about?

Just mildly interesting questions to ponder.

Yeah, Americans are generally too hard working to waste time with a big breakfast during the week. We need something that is quick so we can get out the door and off to work.

Most mornings, a one-egg omelet with cheese and sausage, or ham, or bacon.

What does America have for breakfast?

Racism.

Racism and guns.

Racism and guns and worldwide oppression.

Racism and guns and worldwide oppression and increased manmade global warming.

I travel a lot for business, and one of my favorite places to stay is Oak Tree Inn. Why? Because most of them have an attached fifties style diner- and they feed you breakfast there instead of the usual pre-packaged hotel breakfast. Rye toast, hashbrowns, eggs and bacon (or omelets made to order)- all cooked right in front of you.

I would rather not eat than have yogurt. I’ve changed my eating habits in the past few months and now my breakfast is either plain oatmeal, Egg Beaters with a little low fat cheese or ,my favorite, half an avocado on a slice of whole wheat toast. I’ve even found a way to keep the other half fresh until the next day. So far an 18 pound weight loss.

Oh, and we Brits are quite fine thanks. Happy, not ‘dismal’.

No you're not.
