Pop culture and Internet slang are becoming more official, as confirmed by Oxford's editors this week.
Oxford Dictionaries, the arm of the Oxford family that focuses on current English, announced their latest batch of words Wednesday to be officially added to the ranks. And really, it's amazeballs.
Among the new words: acquihire, amazeballs, binge-watch, bro hug, clickbait, cray (as in cray cray), douchebaggery, FML, hot mess, humblebrag, mansplain, side boob, side-eye, SMH, subtweet, vape, YOLO and zonkey.
Now before you throw your hands up in the air or threaten a bro hug, recognize that this is not the official Oxford English Dictionary. Is creepy ass cracker in there yet?
If a word ain’t in my Webster’s New World Dictionary (1957) I ain’t using it.
(Ain’t is there, argued by some authorities to be correct usage.)
For years and years.
Roger that. Me too. Grates on my nerves like fignernails on a chalkboard.
Are you series?
Do you really want to get us stuned?
That would be vey cool.
Isn’t “asshat” an FR word? I’ve never seen or heard it anywhere else, then ‘Wolowitz’ used it on “The Big Bang Theory”.
It might be. I wonder if there is a way to track when a coined word like that first was used. Until I hear a better one, I'm going with it.
Now, it's what I consider vulgar, but not profane so imo, does not violate posting rules. Ping the Boss for input.
And the Lord knows there's enough of 'em out there to give it a good workout 24/7
Whaddup, Scro?
Why not donkey punch, angry dragon and rusty trombone? Geez.
She was right next door....:)
pantload?
“Ill buy my dictionary at the used book store. It needs to be at least 50 years old.”
Me too.
Hubba,hubba.
.
I'll be impressed when they add “sporkweasel” to the dictionary.
