His major complaint about it was that, while the medics were checking him over, somebody *stole* his helmet.

He was also only wearing 70s era polyester pants.

Bet that ramped up your grimace.

;D

Back in the the early 80's this was my street bike that I put together. At the time I was a builder and tuner of AMA Superbikes so I knew a bit about fast motorcycles. This was a turbocharged 1000 cc BMW in an Italian Magni chassie. I have had it up to 155 mph, but now that I am 74 years old I tend to ride mor sedately.Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

My “adventure in speeding” was about 16 years ago. The bike, a 1993 HD FXR, is still my ride. I haven’t pushed her that hard since!

You mentioned a 650 pasta rocket. I had a Honda CX650 which had a moto-guzzi transverse V twin, much like a Moto-Guzzi. Was it similar to yours?

PS, I am a 5’2” Girl! :-)

I don’t laugh at a Honda Rebel. It is a sweet little bike for city riding.

Doesn’t hold up well on the Interstate, 2 up, and loaded with camping gear though. LOL

Most of the time I am looking at the road ahead, not at the speedo.

BUT, a good clue is that, if the road ahead is TOTALLY empty, and the rear view mirrors are full of cars and trucks, you are probably going a wee bit too fast. LOL.

When there's open road ahead and the mirrors are full, that's usually when I want to pick up the pace a little :).

I love those kind of roads. I used to spend a lot of time riding with Cory West and his dad in NW Arkansas when he was learning his trade. Cory is now and AMA Superbike rider for EBR. I sponsored him early in his career as well as his dad back in the day

Of course I was driving a 98 subaru outback so 85 mph equated to 20 mpg, I did it anyway.

Yea, but on a cycle; traffic behind you is a good thing.

Or to quote from “Gumball Rally”

“The first rule of Italiian driving: What is behind me is not important”

And yes, the road ahead is the most important, especially when you’re on your way home late at night on an empty road and spy a car coming at you from the opposite direction, and you you pass you look in the mirror and see brake lights come on: cop!

Sheet!

You’re a mile or so from home. What to do?

Twist the wrist of course, and look ahead. The speedo said 85 most of the way home.

Officer Friendly went home alone. Thank goodness. :-)

The first rule of italian driving has almost a Biblical ring to it!

(”Forgetting what is passed, I press on...”)
