Set up your own Squid proxy. There are plenty of turnkey proxy VMs out there you can set up on Amazon.

“Use a third-party proxy or Tor to browse.”

Doesn’t work. At some point the little bits are sent to your location and that is tracked. You think Amazon AWS is secure somehow? They can EASILY collect everything going into those proxies and show it was sent to you.

The ONLY means to protect your browsing is to use a virtual PC at Starbucks or some other location you don’t pay for. However, if you ever sign on as you do on FR that security is lost.

Also, if you browse certain web sites you can be identified by your browsing habits.

Frankly, if you are on the Internet, you are not anonymous.

I’m not a car guy. I know where the gas goes and when to change the oil because it’s in my calendar. Just quoting the article :)

Do you understand the concept of MAC address obfuscation? When you configure a virtual server hypervisor, the administrator can configure a completely random set of MAC addresses to be assigned to the virtual servers. If that administrator changes his/her MAC address sets from time to time, then then records for those MAC addresses become useless to anyone snooping.

Proxies and Tor do exactly what I’m suggesting by funneling your data traffic through multiple routing points which can make a packet sniffer like Wireshark almost useless if the sniffing isn’t done on the actual endpoint of your traffic. Since Tor traffic is deliberately obfuscated across multiple endpoint routers, it would take a good deal of time and effort to track the actual data endpoints down unless, like some idiots I’ve read about, you leave your Tor endpoint router unconfigured and unsecured.

I never once claimed that you are completely anonymous while on the Internet, but if you’re encrypting your traffic with SSL and using a proxy and/or Tor to obfuscate your ingress and egress points, trying to figure out what you’re actually viewing and doing on the web would require a Herculean effort that most government agencies won’t bother doing unless they’re gunning for you.

MAC addresses have nothing to do with the Internet routing of traffic. Every single time you connect to the Internet your connection has an IP address. Your ISP logs that connection. If a sniffer is listening to the traffic on that IP address then it doesn’t matter where the traffic comes from as it is going to you. All the mumbo-jumbo, like proxies, going on after your IP means nothing if a listener is listening to your IP address.

MAC addresses have nothing to do with the Internet routing of traffic.

LMAO! Are you serious?

Are you familiar with NAT, sir? If you think that your public IP address is the sole identifier of traffic on your network, then you should probably stop responding altogether. If you're a run-of-the-mill home user, your public IP address is likely dynamic, meaning you could get a new IP address at any time. The MAC address of your ISP router, however, never changes.

The traffic that routes out of your home network, however, is not identified by your router's MAC address. If you were to use Wireshark on your home network, outbound, say TCP 53 for DNS, you would see MAC addresses encapsulated in the frames. These identify the computer/device from which the traffic originated. Every device on your home network has a unique MAC.

Introduce a proxy to this, however, and now every device on your home network APPEARS to be originating from a single device. Turn off logging on that device, and any Fed coming to seize equipment is going to have one Hell of a time identifying the originator of that equipment. Any lawyer worth his/her weight would have charges dismissed on the grounds that they could not identify if the traffic was sent from a specific suspect machine or, say, someone who cracked your wifi password.

If you use Tor endpoints, the likelihood of them finding your home address is virtually impossible, dependent really on how many Tor endpoints through which you route. I suggest 5 at a minimum.

That's my point here. You're arguing that once they have your IP address, it's easy peasy to hang you up for something or find your personal information. My point is that if you obfuscate your traffic pathways through Tor and proxy, the likelihood of them finding your actual IP address is very low.

“Are you familiar with NAT, sir? “

You obviously haven’t a clue what I am talking about. You think NAT will prevent anyone from knowing what is sent to your IP address?

Do you really think the fed will come to your house and verify what device originated a request? You are a silly person if you think that.

The fact that some data went to your house is all they need.

“My point is that if you obfuscate your traffic pathways through Tor and proxy, the likelihood of them finding your actual IP address is very low.”

You make no sense. They already know your IP address. They are not seeking it. When you originate a request from your house they already have your IP. You cannot spoof that in any way.

Try drawing a diagram of what you are talking about instead of just listening to your words.

Just how do you think that Proxy is going to prevent tapping of yourdata?

It’s apparent you don’t understand what Tor does then. They can’t get your IP if they don’t know the calling location. Period.

You’re assuming that I’m using a third party proxy. I have my own proxy, thank you.

Every endpoint has an IP, son. Every end point; yours, too.
