An armed Lakeland man killed a 14-year-old gang member in a shootout Wednesday evening after both drew guns and opened fire, according to the Lakeland Police Department.

Oregon Avenue in Lakeland is a short street in a section that a person of my complexion does not want to find himself, day or night, unless invited or having business there.

And there is absolutely no reason to take up column space to drag in Southern Methodist. It may be two miles from Oregon as the crow flies, but it is east of South Florida, and centuries economically and culturally away from central Africa.

The dead shooter was right in the most likely area you would expect to find him, and only a few blocks from Lakeland Regional Medical Center, a world-class operation.

The presence of such neighborhoods is the reason I had a Florida CCDW license several years, and always carried while visiting my parents there.
