Unfortunately, it did, it just didn't make national news. There was a young boy in my hometown of Nampa, ID, who was killed in much the same way. Church parking lot, full of mounds of snow after scraping. Kids playing. Older white kid stabs younger white kid to death. IIRC, winter of '79/'80 or '80/'81. I lived two blocks from it. I had just played in that same parking lot with friends a few days prior.
It is a lot more common now though, with immorality being the accepted norm
