Channel 9 in LA used to have a movie ever night. The Million Dollar movie. late 50s early 60s. They played the same movie every night, I think 7-9, Mon-Fri. I must have watched the Al Jolson story 15-20 times. Used to do a great impression.
“A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants”.
The Enquirer broke the John Edwards story.
.
Actually, I think she and Jessica Biel resemble each other.
She deserves better than that.
I have hesitated to post on this thread, on a glorious summer evening in Great Lakes country. Well here goes. My wife is just a year younger than Mary Tyler Moore, I am older. First I must thank the posters for the excellent still shots of Mary. Our first impressions of North America were exactly these images on the old black and white T/V.
One day the very (fill in the blank) persons behind National Enquirer will face their quietus. Sure, the First Amendment to the Constitution is one of the finest things created on God's green earth. Just temper it with empathy and decency and it works beautifully.
This the National Enquirer does not do. Indeed it is just the opposite and one recalls the outing of Tiger Woods. His private indiscretions with another woman. I will now echo the biggest liberal coup during the McCarthy Hearings.
Have you no shame Senator? Have you no shame?
One could ask this of the National Enquirer. One day, each and every one of them will get theirs. Excuse this ramble everyone.
I would watch both of her shows when I was a kid. Dick Van Dyke was in reruns then. i remember some of the episodes like when there was the inflatable raft that she opened up? The dream about Danny Thomas being from outer space and the walnuts in the closet? The trip they took to the haunted lodge scared the heck out of me when I was little. Then her show in the 70s... Vividly remembering watching it with my family. An show for adults show the kids could watch. Now I watch things with my mom or my brother’s kids, and I am embarrassed. Not then, except for maybe All in the Family and Maude...
Beautifully said!
I think you hit the nail on the head, Peter Libra. That, plus the utter corruption, is what’s gone haywire with our whole society. We’ve lost our self respect; our discretion & our couth. (”we” speaking figuratively) This is what happens when people “let it all hang out”.
I don’t care about her politics. God Bless her! She will always be one of my favorites.
From her book, “Growing Up Again,”
Moore also has been public about her alcoholism. She says she hasnt had a drink since 1984. Her mother was an alcoholic and her father an emotionally distant man whose approval she never felt she achieved. She has been divorced twice. The original cougar, she has been married to her third husband, Dr. Robert Levine, for 25 years. He is 18 years her junior. In 1980, her only childRichard Meeker Jr., from her first marriagedied at 24 from an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
I stand corrected about her drinking then.
Pretty and fit describes her to a “T”. :)
She stated that her mother had been an alcoholic too. That doesn’t detract from her beauty and talent. I love to watch the old reruns of The Dick VanDyke Show and the Mary Tyler Moore shows. Apparently, she went to the Betty Ford Clinic and took her last drink in 1984 - so kudos to her for overcoming her addiction. She also said in her memoirs that she smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day. Whew!

That’s why she’s dying so young.
