This is a picture of my Mom being a tourist in the 60s. It is also a pretty good picture of how she looked going to the store to buy groceries:

For the record, my Mom grew up very poor, and was only allowed to wear shoes to school after the first frost each year. She was a high school graduate, with 12 members in the senior class. My parents' favorite recreation was going bowling. We owned one car when I was growing up, and the homes we lived in were typically around 1000 sq ft. But even when she was old, she never went to buy groceries without touching up her hair, putting on makeup and making sure she was 'presentable'...
