The NFL hasnt been sufficiently accepting of Michael Sam, who came out as the first openly gay professional football player earlier this year, due to the religious Rights influence in NFL locker rooms, says one ESPN commentator.
On Tuesday, Pardon the Interruptions Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon were discussing former NFL coach Tony Dungys recent comments that media attention would have pushed him away from drafting Sam. Kornheiser said he was optimistic that NFL players would be personally tolerant of Sam, though.
Im more skeptical, Wilbon countered. I think there is a component, a subculture of the religious Right, that is very influential in football maybe not the other sports, but football and I dont see this going as smoothly as you see it.
Wilson joins the Liberal bigots against Bible believing Christians. ESPN should fire him for his anti-Christian bias.
I’m guessing he’ll have a lucrative career as a sportscaster after he washes out of the NFL. Probably college game analyst on ESPN.
I predict the Democrats will groom him for a political career.
His mafiosi boyfriend will make them an offer they can't refuse.
There’s only one problem for the NFL if they ever fill that LA slot with a team.
Since 1995, they’ve used the threat of relocating to LA to blackmail taxpayers in a couple dozen cities to fund palatial NFL stadiums.
“I have to believe that management has told everyone to play nice with him. I would be shocked to see any overt discrimination against him.”
So, when the faggie footballer strides into the showers & everyone in there immediately gets the h*** out, will that be considered a hate crime?
I think that’s pretty much now run its’ course.
Does this wilbon fool expect everyone to kiss this guy in the shower?
Methinks he's projecting.
The funny thing is that gays probably don’t even think about this stuff this much and they probably don’t care what others think as much as these self proclaimed arbiters of social righteousness..
translation: A lot of black NFL players are practicing Christians who are NOT fans of the gay lifestyle, and belong to churches which actively oppose it.
The “religious right” are tolerant, it is the left and the homosexuals who are intolerant.
He will be in the Hall of Fame even if he doesn’t play a single down.
Homosexuality is generally still frowned upon in the American black community, particularly among those with any kind of association with the black church. Additionally I think most Christian black leaders - even liberal ones - bristle at the idea that behavior-based discrimination (LGBT) is the same as race-based discrimination. So even if leftist blacks say LGBT discrimination is evil, I don't think most would equate it to the suffering that blacks went through years ago.
Add to that the machismo that goes with being a young, black male athlete and you have a less-than-accepting environment for a homosexual male.
Of course I'm sure Mr. Wilbon needs a reason to bash conservative Christians, so he chooses to blame it all on that.
Oh the irony! What does he follow? Animal instincts? Every law we have in this country is written in a book
"Do as thou wilt" shall be the whole of the law.
What is all this crap? He hasn’t even made the cut yet. When did the NFL become a soap opera?
Almost after every NFL game you will see a bunch of players from both teams kneeling on the field in prayer, but I’ve noticed the networks don’t show it that much anymore.
“Since 1995, theyve used the threat of relocating to LA to blackmail taxpayers in a couple dozen cities to fund palatial NFL stadiums.”
The Minnesota Vikings, when conducting their annual push for a new stadium, were very good at teetering on the edge of blackmail - but never completely pushed the button.
Same thing here in Indy.
Nothing like getting a new $725m house for free.
And the team gets a huge percentage of the money from all the other events held there like music concerts or non-NFL football games. (that’s the part that REALLY gripes my @ss)
